90W GPA (3.5W)
86 UW GPA(3.2UW)
I have 4 C’s and 1 D on my transcript. That’s mainly from freshman year because I was in the wrong crowd. (But I have an upward trend.)
ACT: 21C (25E,21S,19M,19R,9 out of 12 on the essay)
SAT: 1070C (570V,500M,16 out of 24 on the essay)
If I get my ACT score up to a 30 will that improve my chances? I didn’t really study for it bc I was mainly studying for the SAT, but if I do I think it’ll go up. I’m just really bad at standardized exams.
EC’s: VP of Key Club (hopefully president next year.)
Chairperson of Fundraising for Students Against Destructive Decisions (hopefully president next year.)
Peer Drug Educator
1 Year JV Volleyball
1 Year Varisty Gymnastics
I had to stop sports bc I had a concussion (effected my grades aswell.)
I used to tutor students, and some had ADHD. (Not paid, volunteered.)
I now tutor and babysit 5 days a week but that’s not really an ec bc it’s paid.
Accomplishments: Top 100 for a video competition (received about 1,065 votes)
Made a video about a summer program I worked in and it was shown to the board of education of my school.
I have 10 Honors and 4 AP’s.
I know my personal statement will be good because I think I’m a decent writer.
I also had health issues and it’s just that I’ve been through so much. I don’t have the grades for this school and I know that, but I’ve been through a lot and managed to have A’s and B’s. But I’m still debating if I should spend an application fee if I’m going to get rejected.
Looking at your stats and ECs, your chances do look really slim. Your ACT and SAT scores should be closer to the 30+ range or 1400+ range respectively. Your gpa is lower than the average admit GPA of 3.87. If you are an in-state student and your GPA after first semester senior year is close to, if not 3.7, then your chances would go up a lot. If you are OOS then I would look elsewhere due to the sheer competition between OOS applicants. Your ECs look decent with your VP and Chairperson status, but it doesn’t really look too distinguished. For the most part, look at improving your grade and continuing ECs.
Since you are debating whether to send the application, I would say, decide for yourself if you can manage to continue raising your GPA and standardized test score. There’s never a zero percent chance of getting into a college. If your essays show a student that Umich would lke to accept, then they may overlook you under-average GPA and SAT/ACT score. Best of luck for when you apply to colleges!
I don’t think you have much of a chance even for in-state. do you think you can raise your act to at least a 34 and gpa to at least a 3.8?
Hey there,
Since you are an OOS applicant from New York, your chances are looking pretty low, if not zero for your current statistics. As you are a current junior, I don’t see it possible to raise your GPA to a 3.8 unweighted from a 3.2 unweighted. Your ACT and SAT are pretty low in comparison to what other OOS applicants would have. I wouldn’t think about applying to Umich, unless you were able to somehow get at least a 35 on the ACT or a 1550 on the SAT. Your statistics are not that competitive at all which makes Umich a tough choice to consider for applying to. I would suggest looking elsewhere as there are other schools that are good for psychology. I think that if you were to apply now with your current scores, GPA, and ECs, you would get rejected.
About 1% of admitted freshman have statistics in your range. Of that 1% many are recruited athletes and in-state students. So your chances are extremely low.
No chance, sorry. Best wishes, though. There are a lot of other great schools that would be a good fit for you, good luck.
