sounds solid, that math sat ought to balance out the bio sat 2
and the ucla bit is unique
i think you have a legit shot
gwb

LOL @ the best name I have yet seen on this forum.

Yea, you have a pretty good shot at Brown. UCLA, it would be very tough.

now correct me if i am wrong, but UCLA admission is on a point system right?

and thxxx

GWB

yeah UCLA admission is on a point system

I have a friggin shot? Shut up guys, don't pull my leg. This is friggin Ivy League, you should be telling me not to waste my money. If you are absolutely serious I'm going to start my app right now.

My low sat2's, low gpa, and low rank still allow me to have a shot? Elaboration would be a boon to my soul, please guys......

i elaborated myself out all over this board, check out a few of the other
'got a shot?' posts

i think you have a total legit potential acceptance

start now, write a qual essay

wow them
GWB

so, do we think a point system is a better way to analyze potential students then sitting down, having a minimum of two readers read each application?

a lil more human perhaps?

WBG

nah i think a point system is a good way to handle public universities (readers are instructed to spend no more than 7min/app) ... for privates, and especially LACs, there's no question that each app should be read in its entirety by 2+ readers... then again, who am i to decide? i've never worked in admissions.

true for schools with enormous volume as it is the only feasible choice...
at the same time i like to think i am more then the sum of my stats
GWB

stupid question, LAC stands for what?

lac = liberal arts college. typically <3000 students.

to a college admissions office maybe they just look to see what kind of people they want at their schools and go for that - so they see you as more than the sum of your stats

Just looked through the app....and is it just me or are there like 4 essays you have to write explaining your motivation behind various things. Is there no single main essay?

I'm applying as a bio major....can anyone help point me in the right direction?..

qual point So

there are a bunch of small essays and the one 500 worder
also the 'valued activities' which can either be an essay or a bulleted list depending on how you treat it

GWB

And do I need more than one rec?

Btw, thanks for the help man, I appreciate it..

I see all the forms and whatnot, but do I only need one rec?

2, unless you are pursuing an ScB
then you need 2 and the math science teacher one...
GWB

Damn.

Oh well, one of my rec's might be underwhelming.

negative, or underwhelming?

I think you've got a shot. The thing that made me perk up was the ping-pong champion. That's pretty freaking cool. Brown isn't as numbers-driven as other places, so go for it!
