Hey! I applied to Rutgers New Brunswick (SAS, SEBS) and Newark (SAS) for Spring 2014. I found out the other day that I was not admitted to both schools for New Brunswick, but Newark is still in processing. I'm hoping that I will be able to get in! I applied as a transfer student since I will have 12 credits by the time of enrollment. Do I have a chance?

My HS stats are probably necessary:
SAT: 1530 / CR - 490 / W - 520 / M - 520
GPA: 3.7
Took two honors courses, and a few AP Lit courses throughout HS.
I felt like I wrote a really good essay.

College courses I'll start taking at a CC now:
Intro to Sociology, Intro to Psychology, Writing, and Western Civilization. I'm pretty sure that I'll do well in these courses.

I’d say you’ve got a chance given your GPA but your SAT scores might be too low unfortunately.

Here are their admissions stats:

Good luck!

My nephew got in with much lower GPA and higher SAT. I think you have a good chance since your GPA is really good.

JMVM1231 - My SAT scores are somewhat in the 50th percentile, so hopefully I’ll get admitted:

Mytwosons - Thank you. Do you think applying as a transfer student with only 12 credits (prior to enrollment) will hinder my chances of getting admitted?

I applied to Rutgers New Brunswick for Fall 2013 during my senior year, and I got admitted to SEBS and SAS. It seems strange that I was admitted last year, but I got denied for January 2014 admission with the same stats. Could I bring this up to their attention? Or maybe once I finish my twelve credits (12/15), I could send them a letter of reevaluation, but it would be pass the decision date?

I wouldn’t mind going to Rutgers Newark, but I loved New Brunswick when I visited. Does anyone know much about Rutgers Newark?

Newark and NB are two completely different campuses. Try to visit Newark and ask a lot of questions.
I can see why they rejected you the second time. They offered you admission and you turned it down. If you really want to go to NB, then wait until you have more credits(35-40) and then reapply.

I hope they won’t reject me to Newark with the same idea.

NB is more competitive to get into so they can pick and choose since they get a lot more applicants. I know somebody who turned Newark down to go to another school and he changed his mind the first week of school. He called admissions and they accepted him for that same school year. Not sure if you can do that in New Brunswick.
