Do I have a chance at these colleges?

Would I have a decent chance of getting into Stanford, Brown, Rice, Duke, USC, WUST, Bowdoin, Amherst, Colgate, Dartmouth, or any other top university or liberal arts college?

Plenty of E.C.s, about 500 total ours of EC's per year.
Started my own program for mentoring and emotionally supporting troubled teens.
I have also had to overcome an immense amount of obstacles, so writing a kickass essay will not be a problem at all.
Work experience: I work 16 hours per week at a local casino.
SAT: 2010 (1340 CR+M)
SAT II: math 660, world history 660, Spanish 800

GPA and Val look great.

How demanding was your courseload? Very or most rigorous?

Is your CR/M breakdown pretty even? CR is particularly important for top schools because they want to know that you’ll be able to keep up with reading/writing, even if you’re planning on going into math or science.

Test scores are in general are on the low side for these schools, but in the 600s is good given your circumstances (first gen, low income, overcome obstacles) and you are likely to get a boost.

A first gen, low income, M-A who has overcome obstacles to succeed academically, with an interest in social activism…sounds like a pretty desirable candidate to me.

Best of luck!

what’s your major, if it’s math related your SAT subject math is a lil bit low, but overall try to describe your situation the best so your accomplishments can be measured in context.

OP

Please think of putting Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN on your list.

The Mexican American population in Memphis is growing leaps and bounds and CBU would love your stats as well as the work you do within helping our nations youth. They give you room for a really good admissions essay when you apply.

you should be a competitive applicant at all of those schools

You seem like you’d be competitive there. You’ve got a good amount of schools listed. Since it seems aid is going to be a big issue, you’re certainly going for the right type. I suggest Vanderbilt as well since they gave me the best aid packet and it’s comparable to Duke. You also stand a pretty good chance of getting in there as well I think.
