Do I have a chance at USC?

<p>Hey guys, just wanting some insight if I have any chance at USC. Just recently decided to apply here and cut out a lot of the other schools I was going to apply to. Intend to do Pre Med/Biochemistry but not completely sure, may go with Accounting or Engineering. Anyone know how easy it is to change major at USC? Anyways, here are my stats:</p>

<p>3.9 W GPA</p>

<p>-Father passed away of heart attack, single parent
-Income <35000
-30 ACT (first try, retaking in December and plan to study)</p>

<p>This years schedule:
AP Literature - A-
AP Calc AB - A
H Molec Genetics - A
H Economics - B+
Art - A</p>

<p>Last Year:
Honors Pre Calc: A/A
APUSH : B+/B+
AP Physics - C+/A-
American Literature - A/B+
Varsity Golf</p>

<p>EC:
Golf, have been playing for 6 years. Played my first year in school and won medalist in a pretty large tournament. Also played in AJGA and SCPGA tournaments, placement top 10 in 2 of the biggest.
Guitar: Have been taking lessons for 3 years, played in a band, live, written my own music and study a lot of theory/composition. </p>

<p>Volunteering:
A lot of organizations but I have been involved with Meals on Wheels all of my life with my Grandpa. Probably put in over a thousand hours. </p>

<p>Essays: I feel they are pretty good and reflect my desire to make an impact on society and expand my knowledge. </p>

<p>I know my grades aren't the highest until this year, I'll plan to explain this. I had some serious things happen in my family through HS (Stage IV cancer, very severe heart attacks, and saw my Grandma fall to emphysema). Last year I was on my own for weeks at a time throughout the year because of the things that had to be dealt with. </p>

<p>Are you a senior, junior or sophomore? If you are sophomore, come back in a year (you will have a better sense of GPA and may score higher on a new standardized test). Otherwise, make sure to explain your situation on your application, this may help adcoms understand lower grades.</p>

<p>I think you have a good chance at USC. You have mostly A’s in AP and Honors courses, and your only C+ in AP Physics in the first semester is followed up by an A-, during a tough personal year. Good luck!</p>

<p>Is your golf game good enough to be recruited for the golf team? </p>

<p>This year with the expected increase of applicants I cannot guess who will be admitted.</p>

<p>No, unfortunately not now. I actually know someone who did this year and he won all kinds of big tournaments. I haven’t had the ability to go travel around to play in all kinds of tournaments. I do foresee me trying to tryout in the future.</p>
