You have nice EC’s, but your scores are on the low end for WashU students. Based on that, I honestly have to say it is a very long shot that you will get admitted to the University Scholars Program, especially since you don’t really have any hooks. A tiny fraction of applicants are admitted to USP, I think about 4-5. Even assuming that all of those students attend WashU, that means that only .04% of WashU students are in the USP program.

Thanks for being straightforward. I actually don’t think I can get in anyways… I mean, I don’t have any medical experience such as volunteering at hospitals, shadowing a physician, or doing summer programs. Does that also lower my chances of getting into USP? What do you think my chances are alone of acceptance to WUSTL?

bump!!! i’d like to hear more answers also.

I would have to put your shot of getting accepted into WashU as a merely decent shot, let alone getting into the USP program. One lecturer at the med school during the premed pre-orientation program who attended Yale for undergrad, Stanford for med school, and WUSM for residency said he was still somewhat angry at WashU for not accepting him into the USP program, so he attended Yale instead. (It was meant to be a joke, but it should get the point across.) The USP program is no easy feat; sorry to say, but I would be honestly shocked if you did get into that program.
Honestly, though, the USP program doesn’t mean much. A 3.8 GPA and 36 MCAT is still very difficult to obtain to be guaranteed into WUSM, and you still have to work your butt off. As well, where you attend medical school doesn’t really matter that much… it’s how well you do in it and where you go for residency that matters. You don’t need this program to get into med school.

Wait so you mean a merely decent shot as in I have a chance? like low reach maybe? USP is crazy!! I don’t think I’m applying there anymore haha.

Can anyone chance me for admission to WUSTL alone?

I’d give it a shot - I had considerably low SATs, (but a 33 ACT) and still got accepted. If you have taken the ACT and done decent, definitely put it in -WUSTL superscores, which is all the better.

I think WUSTL would be a good, moderate reach given your stats. Good Luck =]

Killerdeat0 did your 33 ACT get you into Wash U or into their Medical Scholars program?

Do they only accept 5 candidates for WUSTL Scholars Program? And how many of those candidates also get merit scholarships to WU?

@creativecrew yes they only accept 5 candidates, it’s crazy!! Also in college before you graduate, you must have above a 3.8 and 36 MCAT minimum to go straight to medical school. I’m not sure about how many candidates get merit scholarships though.

^no, haha… I’m not sure if I wanna apply for USP given that they only admit 5-10 people a year. The ratio is even more ridiculous than John Hopkins or Upenn’s ratios on undergrad medical programs. From what I’ve heard, it’s more of a ploy to attract students to apply to wash u - 3.8 GPA and 36 MCAT is ridiculous.

3.8 GPA and 36 MCAT may seem ridiculous but it is doable. Remember that you don’t have to get the 36 on your first try, and the 3.8 GPA doesn’t restrict you from taking easier classes, declaring a non-science major, and taking a lighter course load a few semesters.
