Do I have a chance if I my GPA is like a 3.5?

This is only including the core classes ( Spanish, Math, English, Science, and History)

gpa is like a 3.0 with all classes (weighted)
And what if I get my SATs to a 1900+?

If you're applying to CAS, you might get into the GSP...

Of course you have a chance - they look at the overall picture, not just gpa.

My gpa was 3.6ish, and my SAT was 2140, and I got gsp'd. With a 3.0 gpa and 1900 SAT, you honestly don't have a great shot for CAS, but you never know. If I were you I would try to get the SAT I up a little and work hard on your application and essays.

What is GSP?

also, did you take the subject tests? What did you get?

This is a short summary of my stats if it helps:

gpa: 3.63 UW
SAT I : 2140 - (M) 640 (R) 730 (W) 770
SAT II: World History (690), Italian (750) and Literature (770).

I also took 8 AP classes, got 5's on the first three, haven't received my scores yet for the 5 I took in senior year.

High School: One of the top 15 public schools in the country.

I took regular math and science, but I was a year advanced (started Earth sci in 8th) and the rest of my classes were honors/AP. I always did really poorly in math and well in everything else.

Good Luck! :) hope this helped

oh, and GSP stands for the General Studies Program. Basically, you apply to the NYU school of your choice, and if they feel you aren't 'ready', they stick you in GSP for a year (or 2, depending on what college you applied to). Then you go on to your original choice college. You get taught by the staff from CAS.
I don't really like the gsp system, but I'm only going to NYU for freshman year, so I don't care.

man I dont want to take Subject Tests...

Are these required?

Yes .

I mght have to take lit and Math 1 since Im preparing for the SAT now and doing heavy studying for Math and CR

math 1 is easy from what I hear, and I thought lit was easy too; it doesn't require any studying because it's English so that's good.

Would I be able to take Subject Tests in December and still apply to NYU?

I guess you're planning on doing Regular decision - if I were you, I would email nyu directly and ask them, in case someone on this board says you can and he's wrong, and then you're screwed.

but why don't you just take them in october or november?

I might not even apply.. I just got my reprot card

These are all unweighted averages. Honors get 1.05 and APs get 1.10

English 3 H- 84
Spanish H- 72
History H- 89
African American Lit - 88
Physics H- 82
AP Government - 81
Gym- 93
Algebra 2 H- 82

Are those your grades for the whole year? In my school, that would be a B, C-, B+, B+, B-, B-, and B-, so 2.8 UW. Gym doesn't count.

If that was your junior year, it's going to be hard to get in, because they like to see an upward trend.

Thats for Junior year

what if I get all As for Senior year for 1st and 2nd MP?

Because my GPA went up after junior year, so if I get all As in senior year, would I get the upward trend?

Senior year grades don't count for your GPA. However, colleges will see your senior year grades. Un upward trend would be more like 3.4 for freshman yr, 3.6 for sophomore, 3.8 for junior.

This is going to sound harsh, but let's be honest: You have a 2.8 gpa, a low SAT score, no AP classes. NYU is a very competitive school; their acceptance rate was only 24% this year. They see thousands of applications which are amazing, from kids who have perfect grades, high scores, play varsity sports, have tons of awards, play instruments, are leaders in their school, make a difference in their community, etc. And they reject tons of qualified candidates who are amazing.

But you still have a shot, because NYU cares more about just stats. Which is why if you choose to apply, work REALLY hard on your application - stand out. Make sure they know NYU is your 1st choice, and explain how you would benefit the school and from an nyu education.

I was GSP'd with a much higher GPA & 30 ACT. ...From what I've seen from this year's admissions, I don't think you have that great a chance. A good friend of mine with a lower GPA/tons of leadership/decent SATs was waitlisted before flat out rejected.. And, someone else (URM) with similar to list on yours was rejected...

Seriously, don't be that hopeful. NYU seems to be getting more selective...

I have 2 AP classes throughout HS

:(

Damn... would it be possible to do well in college and possibly transfer?

the truth is you don't have a good shot; I've seen kids with way higher gpa's/SAT/EC get rejected. But you still have a teensy chance, so you should go for it if you like NYU.

But a lot of kids do poorly in high school and well in college..of course you can transfer. Keep in mind transfer acceptance rates are REALLY low (much lower than high school ones) but NYU will look at your high school and college grades for transfer, so do well senior year, and in college. Good Luck!
