Do i have a chance in hell?

Hi my name is Tristan, I’m currently a sophmore in high school in CA. And i have been looking at this site for quite a while now. And i was wondering if i even had a chance to make to Alabama or let alone any major University. Well first off last year my grades were poor like really bad I’m talking like Gpa of 1.7 or something around there, i know its bad.I changed schools twice and was just having a lot of personal issues at the time. But at the end of last year when i joined track i immediately fell i love with the sport and i was determined to better in school and make something out my opportunity. So so far this year im doing good and im staying on the right track with A’s and B’s , but i was wondering if i were even to get perfect grades for the rest of high school would it even matter? Would my GPA even go up to a 3. whatever that would get me into a University? I was just curious because if im going to work hard i want to know that it will at least pay off in the end.

So that’s basically it so would my GPA go up if i got my good grades? Because i would love to go to Alabama or Auburn or LSU or Florida or even Texas A&M, etc you get the idea. " I Don’t want to go to a instate University and money wont be a problem"

By the way im running Track again this year and for the next 2 years for my High School and last year i did pretty good fro a freshman running a 56 in the 400 and i have my trainer who i work with almost daily, because im trying to get a scholorship for Track but even i know that will be extremely tough. So thats all guys/girls any info or support would be helpful THANK YOU FOR READING THIS TAKE CARE!!

Most important if you can keep your grades >3.0 is to score well in the ACT or SAT. If you score 26 or above in the ACT you got a very good chance at all the schools you mentioned. I suggest that you enroll in one of those programs offer by Kaplan or Sylvan to help you with the process, but you will need to practice and practice.

Also, check with your HS and see if you repeat some of the courses where you had a D. Usually the school will overwritte you bad grade for the better one.

Stay focused and you will realize your goals.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice/help lapagan!

If you make a strong improvement this year and next year, chances are you can get an admissions rep on your side and be pretty much forgiven for a weak freshman year. A lot of kids have bumpy first years. The important thing is that you have recognized that you must make big strides in your gpa NOW instead of later. Good job!

In terms of your track efforts, this EC may pay off for you as well, so keep up the hard work. I have no idea what a optimal time is for the 400, but I’m sure you can look at high school stat sites like Espn Rise, and get a good idea of what it will take to get a track scholarship. You may want to investigate recruiting sites like ncsasports.org and see if they would be helpful next year. Institutional need can be a strong determining factor in where you get into college, so do some research and see if you can make some coaching connections when you are technically allowed to reach out (according to NCAA rules). Get your track coach involved and let this person know that possibly running in college is something you want to pursue. The sooner you start really focusing on these goals, the better. Good luck this year with your grades!

Just to give you an idea of what times are required to be considered for a track scholarship, here are Auburn’s standards:

[Auburn Tigers - Auburn University Official Athletic Site - Track & Field](http://auburntigers.cstv.com/sports/c-track/spec-rel/questionnaire-standards.html)

Mustang2000 thanks so much for the track info I knew it was around 47 ish for my beloved 400 but all those times give me a better idea thanks so much!
