Hey everyone, I’m currently a junior in highschool. My freshman year wasn’t the best actually it was my worst year so far. I left freshman year with a 1.38 GPA and had to retake a math class. However I got my act together in tenth grade and got a overall of 3.61 but combined with my gpa from 9th it only brought me up to a 2.34 , I’m now taking 2 AP classes and other college courses outside of school for credits. I’m doing a lot of extra curricular activities and I even write some of my own creative stuff. I believe I can pick my gpa up to at least a 3.04 by the end of senior year however I’m really nervous they won’t be able to look past my grades. I’ve been wanting to go to this school since beginning of sophomore year for acting & ive got a pretty good story to tell. How do I stand out with a low GPA? and still get accepted
Also I’m big on self advocacy , I think I’ve sent them like 5 emails within this year and last year. Asking how I can ensure I get into their school. Their information is pretty self explanatory but I still want to know if I have a chance.
If it’s one of the programs you need to submit a portfolio for, you may be able to compensate with an outstanding portfolio, especially if you keep your gpa up at your sophomore levels (or better). Bear in mind these programs have very low admit rates to begin with.
Also be careful what you email them asking. It is generally not recommended to email with questions whose answers are easily found on the website. Nothing is going to “ensure” you can get into a school with low admit rates and holistic admissions, unfortunately.
Thank you. And I only ask questions to inform me more on what I need to have or do to get in, I’m very aware that they have low admit rates as well. I guess its just me and God from here on out.
Thank you for your reply.
I’d love to know how you ended up doing!
