Nvm, shouldn't of posted this here.

You can retake classes and have the lower grade dropped. I would encourage you to do that. Set yourself on summer school and retake the math at the very least. It’s totally possible to turn things around but you have to start right this second.

The UC’s and CSU’s only calculate Sophomore and Junior grades for admission. However, the problem in failing classes Freshman year is that you won’t get credit for the A-G requirements. For example, you need minimum 3 years of math to apply to any UC school but if you failed Algebra 1… that year won’t count. I’m sorry to say that your Geography class won’t count either. A “D” might be enough to let you graduate high school but nothing under a “C” counts as completion of an A-G requirement at the UC/CSU systems. Basically, the only class that “counts” toward your requirements this semester is English (they don’t count PE.)

Here are links to the classes you need to take during high school to get into the California public systems. Yes, they want to see honors and AP’s but you won’t qualify to take them if your grades are low in the regular classes. Get some help. Go in for tutoring. If you want better teachers, work hard as the higher level classes tend to have the better teachers.

So I have to take Alg 1, Geography, Spanish, and AVID in Summer school?? ugh… So I basically need to get a C or better in order to fulfill the A-G requirements?

Well, you wouldn’t have to take them ALL over. Avid isn’t an A-G so you don’t have to repeat that. You won’t likely need to re-take geography either as the requirement is 2 years of social studies and in CA you’ll be taking at least 2 more years as part of the basics high school graduation requirement. You don’t technically NEED that semester of Geography to count as long as you make sure to get in another college prep elective in somewhere. Spanish, well, you need 2 years of a second language. You could just commit to taking Spanish through your Junior year and not retake Freshman year I suppose. You might be able to work out a waiver if you are a native speaker or can prove fluency… talk to your counselor about that though as I don’t know how that works. The overall problem is, you’ve listed the more competitive UC’s and they want to seem MORE than the minimum.

Math though, I’d strongly consider it. You need 3 years and so don’t HAVE to retake algebra 1 if you commit to passing math your last 3 years of high school. However, if you are failing Algebra 1 you might have a rough time in the higher maths. You mentioned a strong dislike for math and so I’d worry that you won’t be motivated to go past Algebra II (and if Algebra I doesn’t count due to the “F” then you will HAVE to move past Algebra II… make sense?)

I wasn’t trying to get you down. Like I said, it is absolutely possible to turn things around and I applaud your realization that things are going wrong and you want to change it. You are a kid and frankly, few adults would willingly go back to 14 or 15-years-old. Stuff goes wrong and that is OK. You can do it but it may take summer school or additional time in classes you don’t always love.
