So I’m failing 2 of my classes and I am try to get in to a Cal State what are my chances? I’m taking one class over summer. Please get back to me ASAP.
If you repeat your failing courses, then the new grade will be place the F’s when you self-report on the CSU application. Also the new grades will be calculated into your CSU GPA and not the F’s.
So am I going to need AP classes?
Cal States do consider HS course rigor however, if you are failing classes then you should cut back on the AP’s and take Honors or Regular classes for a better GPA. CSU’s are all about the stats: GPA and Test scores. CSU GPA is capped at 8 semesters or 4 year long Honors/AP classes for 10-11th. No reason to go over that amount especially if you are struggling.
The first gate at all the CSUs is completing the a-g course list with a C or better. No amount of APs will make up for falling a semester short of one of the requirements. If you are failing classes sophomore year, you probably won’t benefit from the AP courses, they are time consuming and will wreck your GPA. An A in regular English is better than a C in AP English.
I got mostly B’s during my freshman year of high school and failed a class and got a D during my sophomore year in high school. However, I fought back during my junior and senior year and took 4 AP classes and became president of Yearbook and many other notable programs within my high school. After this, I still qualified for my A-G for cal states. So the point is, if you do spectacular during your junior and beginning of Senior year, you will be FINE. I applied to CSUN, CSUF, and CSULB and got accepted to all, but the best part was that I got accepted to UCR, UCSB, and UCI too! I think you have a better chance at UC’s if you write 2 amazing personal statements and do well on your SAT’s. I scored a 430 on math but 600+ on writing/reading so i think that made it up. Good luck! If I can do it, you can too!
**4 AP classes each year, junior and senior year. A lot of time dedication and absolutely no social life but it was so worth it.
Wow! That’s great thankyou so much @ailicecannaiv
Messing up in the freshman and sophomore years can still be overcome in your junior and senior years. Repeat the classes with the bad grades to get it off your transcript. Also do well in the junior and senior years. Colleges will look at the upward trend.
