Do I have a chance??? will chance back

I go to an EXTREMELY competitive high school (10<% acceptance rate) where, thankfully, they do not rank. The classes are very tough and the smartest like Intel competition winning kids get 4.5 GPAs (just to put things in perspective). About 30 kids get in every year, but it's not necessarily the top GPAs as (not to be obnoxious) but many of the top school are familiar with our tough, STEM curriculum and tend to focus more on other things we do as well.

My DREAM school is Cornell School of Hotel Administration. I am planning on applying ED and I am a legacy (my older brother goes to CALS); I've heard sibling legacy is a big deal.
UVA (Instate, 100ish kids admitted from my school)
William and Mary
Cal Tech (Legacy, my Mom and Dad went there)
U Chicago
London School of Economics
William and Mary
Georgetown
Carnegie Mellon University

Stats:
UWGPA: 3.64
WGPA: 4.11
(significant upward trend in grades)
I decided to retake my freshman math class, but as it is difficult lots of people have done it. My counselor will be writing a note explaining how my unusually large class size and weird teaching situation put me in a bad situation.
SAT: 2200 (planning to retake it to get higher)
SAT II: Bio (800), Math II (800- I hope this shows that I am good at math and my grade freshman year was a fluke)
Nine APs total

Activities/Awards:
Girl Scout (all the awards)- 8 years
Croquet- 2 years
Rotary Club (Editor, VP, President)- All of high school
Newspaper- Will get an editorial position senior year
Shadowed at Holiday Inn corporate building
Interned at non-profit (including organizing several events)
Did research lab at local university and got a paper published
PF Debate (placed in a few local tournaments)
Harvard PF Debate Council
Had a job at a country club and a medical spa (hospitality related)
Girl Scout Congressional Aide program
Went to Italy for a summer to learn the culture and Language
Mentorship program
Several Russian Language Awards
National Merit Quarterfinalist

Other stuff:
Income bracket: Around $300,000+
Financial aid: No
I have been told I interview and write essays well, so hopefully that will be the case when I apply
One teacher rec will be strong (most likely), but the other will be nice but not like super moving (she likes me but it's not like I changed her life or vice-versa), and my counselor's should be nice, yet generic, but she's inherently an awkward person so everything she writes tends to be a little awkward- hopefully it will be apparent that it's her writing style and not because of me necessarily.

Thank you and if you post the link I will be sure to chance back stat!

Lol, TJ? You’ll be fine. William and mary, UVA, and CMU are matches. The rest are reaches. If you are speaking about repeating Alg 2, many people do that.

Thanks for your input guineagirl!

Cornell, UVA (as long as you’re instate?) should be matches. Georgetown lower match. CMU also a match. Caltech’s a high match possibly a low reach. Williams is a match. The rest are reaches.
Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1645771-chances-for-harvard-stanford-mit-columbia-uc-berkley-carnegie-mellon-caltech-yale.html#latest</a></p>

Thanks theanaconda

@pleaseandthanks I think you have high chances at Cornell and at CalTech, mostly because of the legacy status.
Your SATs look like stellar, but have you considered that Georgetown requires three subject tests? (As far as I’ve read). I’d advice getting in touch with a current study or alumni to ask if it’s a good idea to apply with two, because their site says three subjects are highly recommended. However, in ADCOM language that’s basically required.

UVA, W&M, U Chicago are all matches, I believe. I can’t talk about the rest since I’m an international student and I don’t know enough about them to be able to change you.

Your GPA might be a problem for LSE. English school tend to put a lot of emphasis on academics rather than ECs, so if there’s any way you could raise it for the rest of junior/senior year, that would be a plus.

Chance me back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1653114-chance-me-top-lacs-nyu-northwestern-etc.html#latest</a></p>

Thanks! I plan on taking another SAT II (Lit) before applying.

Probably not many people from TJ will apply for Hotel Mngmnt at Cornell, so you have a decent chance. You will do okay with W&M. UVA could be tougher only because of your immediate competition. Your guidance counselor can tell you everything you need to know (way more info than is on Bb) – including the profile (# of Hns, APs, etc) of every person in Ffx County who applied and was accepted, deferred and matriculated to all of the schools on your list. Also – If you are interested in Hotel Management, I’ll just mention that a relative graduated from UMass Amherst. She was recruited on campus into the Disney Resorts program, which was exhausting, minimum wage, but great on the resume. She was then pursued by Marriott and came to the DC metro area to work in a high end property where she quickly rose up the ranks. She was offered jobs all around the world and is currently in Japan, returning this July to NYC. In the middle of all that, she found her extraordinary soul mate and married and has two kids.

You have a decent chance at UVA. This year, they capped TJ at 75 students accepted. But your GPA is high enough coming from TJ and you will have an advantage as a female. William and Mary will be more competitive for you because of being female, which they have more applicants for, but I’m sure you’ll be fine; just be sure to write the optional essay. If you want to PM me, I can help you more with TJ specific stuff (that way you don’t have to reveal details here).

Thanks Leyland and guineagirl!

Cornell-Low reach (as long as u do ED)
UVA - High math
William and Mary- low match
Cal Tech - high match/low reach
U Chicago - low reach
London School of Economics im not familiar with this ;(
William and Mary - low match
Georgetown - mid reach
Carnegie Mellon University - low reach

everything you have is above average. i suggest retaking SAT if possible to get it to at least 2250 and then youre chances will double at cornell. youre ECs are great and nice APs. good luck!

Chance me pls:
