I want to go to UCLA, and my SAT score is 1930.
From the 1600 scale though, it's 1270.
I might take the SAT again
From my SAT score, is it realistic that I have a chance of getting in?

i had an 1860 and i got in…

since the SAT is only one of many factors they consider when deciding, as long as everything else is strong you have a pretty good chance.

oh alright thanks guys
and Jeyday_Lovely, what other factors made you go in?

^ lol
“what other factors made you go in”

I know tons of people with lower SATs that got in. I also know tons of people with higher SATs that got rejected. I guess it all depends on how you look as an applicant as a whole. How is your GPA, EC, work experience, essays, and etc. Just remember luck also plays a big role in admissions.

Many people will say “I got in with only a XXXX”, but you should take these statements for nothing more than a grain of salt. Every applicant is different, and the voluntary response bias will give you unreliable data about what SAT score “you need”. Just try your best, if you don’t get in, just transfer in two years.

SAT scores are pretty much negligible if you are at the top of your class. I know plenty of people here with sub 2000 scores, but they were all top 5 in the class or something.

It’s sad to see a lot of my classmates getting rejected at my high school with high SAT’s (2200+) just because they decided to attend a hyper-competitive school.

So basically, UC’s really aren’t that difficult to get in imo. Just go to some crappy school and be valedictorian and start a few clubs.

You can always transfer in 2 years, which isn’t too difficult judging by the caliber of community college students.

Flip138:

UCLA: Reach

good enough

Honestly I would take the SAT’s again because its much more selective for out of state students to get accepted because there are so many California apps. Think about taking the ACT to see what you get on that, I think that is something that helped me. Plus a lot depends on your SAT II scores as well.

As long as you have a good GPA and ECs to go along with it. My friend got a 1400 on his SAT (on the 2400 scale) and got into UCLA and UC Berkeley. He was in a lot of clubs though and was in the top 10.

what made me get in?..

i’m not really sure, the admission officer might have been having a good day that day for all i know. but, some of my strong factors include that first off im a california resident, more specifically southern california. im also a first generation college student. my gpa was 4.18 weighted, and i was really involved with clubs. i have over 450 hours of community service, in three fields where i feel passionate about and dedicated. i won a lot of awards throughout high school, and have unique hobbies (figure skating, etc). my essays were REALLY good (in one of them i talked about a competition i messed up on, and how i overcame it momentarily; used a lot of imagery). i had also taken a couple classes at my local community college. i know my SATs were fairly low for ucla, and i only took them once, without studying. i know a lot of people who got in with even an SAT of 1830. my friend had an 1890 and also got into the honors program.

if you have one flaw, that wont stop you from getting in… but obviously a 2000+ increases your chances.

good luck =) hope i helped

oh and im ranked 12th in my class out of 240, so top 5%ish

Just take it again and get the highest score you can. Nothing is for sure anymore. A high score doesn’t guarantee acceptance just like a low score doesn’t guarantee rejection. Just take it again and do your best and make sure you have other things to put on your application

good enough. SAT scores provide no guarantee for admissions whatsoever. I got a 2080 and got rejected. My friend got in with his 1630. It’s all about extra activities and personal statements!

No it’s all about the GPA and rank. If you have these, your chances rise tremendously.

yes .

Being holistic adds 360 points to your SAT I score. It’s true, because the Bible says so.

I agree with Yahoo, its about gpa and rank. Rank more than GPA due to possible inflation and what not.

It might also help if your SAT II scores are high, especially if they’re in the field or related to your major. I had few ECs, a mediocre SAT, but my SAT IIs in English and US History( I’m a History major) were great. It also helps if you have a good essay.

yes of course you have a chance… I got in with 1910, but my GPA, SATIIs, and essay were pretty good I think…
