I really want to apply to Cornell. However, I have a feeling that I have no chance of getting admission. I have not taken any ap classes during my freshman, sophomore and junior year. I am taking three ap classes, cal, physics, and literature this year. Honestly, I haven't achieved Amy awards and am not involved in any sports. I have joined few clubs and I have done summer program this year too. My GPA is 3.7 . Also, i took the sat this june and got 1360 yea! Yea that's horrible and i retook it this november. Lasty, I am a Minority and my parents have only completed high school .....please give our honest response pleaseeeeeeeeee. Thank You

Oh! And I my major deals with engineering!

Is that 1360 on a 2400 scale or 1600?

2400 sadly

People on this site will say that you have ‘no chance’ but thats not true, everybody has a chance as long as they send in an application – If that 1360 was out of a 1600 scale that would be good… Cornell takes up to the January SAT, if you really want to a ‘better’ chance for cornell then I would say try to score at least a 1900 – remember, the January SAT is the last one you can send in. Your GPA isnt very high, especially with the low class rigor(only 3 ap classes), coupled with your lack of EC’s… Admissions are looked at holistically so lacking in one section of the application wont completely deny you, but you are lacking in most of the sections to your application. I dont think that a high SAT score(2200+) can outweigh/balance out your weaknesses – I am not an admissions rep, im just a high school student just like you so take my word as you will… but good luck!

Your SAT score is nowhere within range and there’s no EC’s awards to make up for that area. But I agree with thegrant in that it is not impossible. I don’t think that you have a good chance but it is by no means impossible. I really hope that your essay will be amazing and make you stand out from the crowd. Fingers crossed for that November SAT score.

The reality is that professors teach to the norm. You are not going to be successful taking classes where the average student has an SAT score 400 - 500 points (on just 2 sections) higher than yours. Don’t try to put yourself into a situation where you have little chance of being successful, look at schools with scores more in your range.
