Do I have a mental problem or is it just stress?

Hey guys so I am a rising senior in high school and, for some reason I cannot sleep during the night when I am sick. It's not just insomnia but like, my brain is actually working. It is kind of hard to explain. For instance, today I am sick with (what I believe to be) the flu and before I got sick I was doing calculus during the summer so as to prepare for my AP BC next semester.
I am already doing the integration stuff and I really like it. The only problem is, today I woke up at around 2-ish in the morning thinking "integral of 12x^2 ln(2x) dx" and then for some reason I tried to do the problem in my head for about an hour until I figured out what I was doing and went up to get a drink of water. I then fell asleep for an hour but the same thing happened to me but with a different math concept. I know have a piercing headache.

This is the second time this has happened. The other time was during last year when I had the flu and had to memorize a Spanish song and when I got up to use the restroom it was completely in my head, and I actually had to hum something else to get it out of there.

I am not a troll, but just worried. Is this because of stress or am I just insane?

If your sick and you can’t sleep it’s probably just a byproduct of the sickness. It’s probably just stress that’s causing you to think that way, though. When I have a big chem test or exam the same thing happens to me.

That’s a really unique condition! I’ve never heard of it, but it sounds very probable. It sounds like it’s stress related, you should probably ask a doctor about it though, just so you can get a name for this condition. Senior year and probably a lot of AP’s? It sounds pretty obvious why you would be stressed.

It could also be in your genetic nature to do something like that, but that’s pretty unlikely

I was doing bad in math for a while and I would have these dreams about taking a test. When I was about to wake up I would keep trying to go back to sleep to finish the test until I realized if I woke up there would be no test, haha. Somethings like that just happen.

Thanks guys, that makes me feel a little better.

And yes, I am taking a ton of AP’s + some CC classes.

Could you read a novel before bed (or when you wake up in the middle of the night) to calm your mind? It works for me.

This sounds like stress. You need to relax a bit. Don’t stress yourself out- just remind yourself that you will rise to the occasion when the situation calls for it.

Thanks guys, I guess I should take some time off for myself.

Definitely stress. You’ve been spending too much time with school.

Sometimes when people get sick they get delirious. From sinus congestion, this is most likely NOT a brain condition and just a temporary type of delirium. If it continues after you heal then you might want to get it checked out.

You sound like a mad scientist wrestling with a potentially Earth-shaking problem. Do you live in an abandoned clock-tower?

That, of Inception.

Either way, it’s stress.

I would guess it’s stress- I get exactly like that when there’s too much going on, and I have that on top of normal insomnia so it’s kind of unfortunate. But yeah, just know that you’re not alone, and PM me if you find anything that helps b/c I’m still looking :)

Last year I had the same thing happen to me. I’m pretty sure it’s really not a big deal.

hm i’ve done things like that a few times before. I’ve never connected it with stress, or feeling sick. it just usually happens when I go to bed after unsuccessfully trying to figure something out. Many times it’s an anxious, tormented state, where i’m wrestling with this vague thing that’s not really even identifiable.

Try living with this almost everyday of your life. It gets worst if I dont have something else to counter the recurring problem-solving thought in my head. Sometimes before bed I turn on some light music it usually helps. Even though its crossed my mind I’m going crazy I know it most likely due to stress and anxiety. So don’t worry. On the upside though it helps with overall memorizing certain things.
For me though I usually get obsessed with social things more often. I over analyze things WAY too much. Try to keep some background noise going on; usually works for me or try to be more aware to keep yourself from getting lost in that thought.
Good luck!
