Do I have a shot for RD?

Hello College Confidential, lately I’ve become more and more worried about my chances at applying to college. Bowdoin has always been high on my list, and I felt who better to ask than people familiar with Bowdoin themselves.

ACT: 35 (single sitting)
GPA: 4.13
Rank: 21/240
AP Tests (all self studied): English Lit (5), Chinese (5), Psychology (5), Microeconomics (5), Macroeconomics (5), World History (5)
Predicted IB Score: 45/45

I’m an IBD student so I don’t take AP classes. I take the most rigorous course-load available.

Extracurriculars:
Editor-in-Chief of School Magazine
Founder and Co-President of School Chess Club
MUN member (won two local awards)
Volunteered teaching English to kids every Saturday morning
Semi-finalist winner of National research competition in China

American living in China here. Thanks!

Seems good

Both your ACT score and your IB scores are great. I think you have a very good chance at Bowdoin.

Did you apply RD? Apparently that is important for that school. My neighbor are alumni they had their DD do so for best results. Did you have an interview?

Oops, wandered into this and didn’t see title. Thankfully you are RD. Think you have a shot.

Thanks! College anxiety is killing me.

@gearmom, I’m just curious, why does applying RD to Bowdoin give an applicant a better chance than applying ED?

@drcharisma, your academic stats look excellent. Good luck!

@lr4550 There is a much higher acceptance rate for ED as Bowdoin tries to fill up slots with qualified candidates.

That’s what I thought, @gearmom, but your post identified RD (regular decision) as the advantage- I think you meant to say ED in posts #3 and #4 (and the OP is applying RD which won’t give that ED advantage)! But OP looks like a rally strong candidate even if applying regular decision.

Wow. I must have been really tired. Yes, early decision has a strong advantage over regular decision. That changes things a bit.

I think being an American living in China will make you an appealing applicant. Not international so you don’t have to worry about not getting good FA (if you need it) but living abroad will be interesting and bring diversity to the student body. GL!!!

I had no hook and average SATs for the school. Bowdoin cares about the essays and your interest (even if the websites say they don’t), I spent a month on my essays and visited twice, had an interview, and contacted my admissions rep. I was accepted ED. Take the time to get Bowdoin and express your love for the school! They will see that you are capable of the work, but they also want to see your potential and what you can bring to bowdoin besides your intelligence. Good luck!!

get to know*

Thanks guys! By the way, if I may ask, what did you guys write your supplemental about?
