My uncle went to undergrad at Dartmouth and my dad did Med school there.

Thanks so much for reading. Any feedback is great!

You are a great applicant but to have better chances of getting in complete the following list.

  1. Increase your sat scores to 1500+.
  2. Increase your sat subject scores to around 750 for all of them.
  3. Take sat writing. ( Looking up things about Darmouth they do require it)

Overall you are a great applicant but if you increased your stats you can defintely get in

@Bervely7 Thanks so much for your response! I had no idea idea that Dartmouth requires the SAT with essay, so I will definitively do that. Thanks

Agree with Bervely on all suggestions, except the ā€˜definitely get inā€™. Extremely competitive. No sure thing. You are a great candidate. Good Luck

@oscar63 Thanks for your response. If my SAT essay score is pretty bad, like a 4/5/5, will that instantly disqualify me. I really struggle with writing, but have time and a half for the SAT so hopefully that will help.

Guys guys guys. Dartmouth dropped the essay requirement for the SAT.

^ I very much hope, and pray, most colleges follow suit in dropping the SAT essay requirement. IMSO, a timed, handwritten essay is no way to judge oneā€™s writing skills.

Your athletics and academics are very strong, try and build leadership positions in other portions of extracurriculars as well.

@bz1119 Could you send me the link to where I can find this info? I am super stressed and confused about it, but donā€™t know where to look for it. I did find this on college Boardā€™s website https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/college-essay-policies - - but nothing on Dartmouthā€™s website. Thanks

Hi. Your achievements are definitely impressive! Dartmouth is one of those insanely competitive schools that rejects thousands of well qualified applicants. Even if you had perfect SAT scores, it would still be a long shot only because the admit rate is so low.

You said your goal is to major in education. Thats wonderful! This country needs more great teachers. One thing to consider is that if your goal is teaching, you may want to go to college in the area near where you want to teach. It makes it easier to get classroom experience and ultimately that all important first job. You can get a great education at 100s of wonderful colleges all over the country.

Good luck!

@gallentjill Honestly, I know that it the chance that I get in Dartmouth is extremely small, so the colleges that I am looking at that are more on level, as apposed to reach schools, are Berry College and Furman University. Dartmouthā€™s education programs are extremely good and very well renowned which is what drew me to it. But for most majors, and certainly education, success is caused by applying yourself, wanting to learn, become better, genuine passion and engagement, and less about the specific post-secondary institution. ā€¦ But that saidā€¦ Dartmouth is lovely, and I would love to go

That is one of the best attitudes Iā€™ve found on this site! You are going to be an amazing teacher wherever you end up. Whatever school gets you is going to be very lucky.

OMG!!!
Dartmouth has dropped its essay requirement for the SAT, according to Applerouth (which I hope it pretty accurate) and the Washington Post on April of 2018. Boy does that make life simpler.

For a variety of reasons, I donā€™t think the SAT essay is a good measure of oneā€™s writing ability. Glad Dartmouth dropped it and hope other schools follow.

Thats amazing that they dropped their essay. Is Darmouth the only school yyou are applying to ? If you are applying to other colleges( you should) did they also drop their essay requirement. The reasom wjy im asking is that Im a junior in the fall and havent focused much on the essay

I am also appling to Furman University, Berry College, and UGA (not really looking at since it is a bit too big for me, but my sis is there). None of them require the essay portion. What colleges are you looking at? @Bervely7

My top school is Washington and Lee( it was UVA but hearing about the school just made me feel in love).Im also applying to UF, ( I live in Florida and thats the best school here plus it has a great political science and philosphy program), UVA, George washington University, NYU, and maybe Colgate or Cornell. Im realizing that I am looking at really selective school s and want to add schools that I enjoy but can easily get into, however when I look as great politcal science/ philosophy programs non selective schools barely make the list.

Personally I would not focus on the SAT essay since (or even bother taken it) : Washington and Lee, UF, Colgate, Cornell, and UVA all doesnā€™t require or recommend it, it is recommended but not required by George Washington University (could not find the information for NYU though). I was able to pull all of this info from the college boardā€™s website.

For less selective schools that have great political science programs, you could check out UGA (although I only know about itā€™s stats for instaters like me). The amount of resources they have available for their undergrads is incredible. If students take initiative, the internships and networking you can do is incredible. They also have pre-existing networks to help connect alumni and students (I donā€™t know much about political science but I assume the connections are a key accept just like in business, but I donā€™t really know).
My sister is currently there and loves it (plus she just got an internship at Boston Childrenā€™s hospital through a Harvard lab program. I believe that it was her connections and support that she had at UGA which springed her into this internship). Hope this helps

Washington and lee is my top school but also uva, university of pittsburgh, uf, and maybe cornell and colgate

Thanks so much
