Do I have any chance for William and Mary?

I'm an out of stater(South Carolina) who applied to W&M as one of my reach schools. However, now I'm doubting that I have any chance of getting in at all. Would you guys take a look at my stats and chance me. Thanks. Oh, and leave a link and I'll chance you back.

Unweighted GPA-3.52 (I think this really hurts me)
weighted-4.5
class rank- 26 out of 318
I've taken a fairly difficult course load(honors/APs)
My APs will be:
Human Geography
Biology
US History
English:Literature and Composition
English:Language and Composition
Statistics

My SAT is 720 math, 700 english, and 650 writing

My extracurriculurs:
Football
fencing
Boy Scouts(I'm an Eagle with 8 palms)
Founded and elected president of my schools chess club
I founded a program which supplies firewood to needy families who heat their homes with firewood

And this isn't a extracurriculur but I wrote about it for my essay. I was awarded this medal of merit (awarded for heroism) for saving two marine pilots from a plane crash while I was hiking with two of my friends.

I had two friends last year that applied to W&M, and they're stats were a little worse than yours. Unless your school isn't very difficult, that GPA isn't too bad. It isn't great, I'll admit, but it won't completely screw you. You have good ECs, good rigor of courses, pretty good SATs. The writing could have been better, but you have a 1420 for Cr/math which looks good. You really should be fine. The friends of mine that applied both got in, they had GPAs of probably 3.6-7 ish, but only 4 total APs. Also, neither were extraordinary in math and science, so they weren't fantastic applicants. They got in nonetheless. Again, you have a very solid chance, but like most top schools, nothing is guaranteed.

Thanks for tellign me. that makes me feel better.

dreamsofivy was too nice on your chances, to be honest. You chances are High Match- Low Reach if not a higher reach. This year they have record applications, and chances are hovering around 27% , the want the best of the best. The problem with your application is your unweighted gpa, and your ec's. The marine thing will help, but not too much- it will work as a hook. I applied this year also, regular i took 10 APs , 10Hn and i think my chances are Low Reach.

Did you mean that you only took 10 honors? I know it's a tough school to get into. But they say you should apply to some reach schools. So thats what it is. Besides, I have a couple of full scholarships to fall back on, so it's just a shot. Oh, but my exctracurriculurs are much better than this. I jsut listed a few. if you think it would help you give me a better chance then I'll list them.

chance me back?

high match i'd say...its no safety have a good chance. i wish i'd applied there, it looks really nice! good luck!!

Blaken91, no i meant i took/taking 10 AP classes** and** 10 HN classes throughout high school.

Yes, it would help you list your Honors classes as well, with your all of ec's

woah the saving the Marines thing sounds pretty cool. What exactly happened? Was it like you literally saved their life or did you just find them and call police? lol. Any news story on this you can link me to?

All in all I say WM is low reach

Yeah after rereading my post, I think I made it seem a bit too easy. Again, W&M is hard for anyone, as it is one of the best schools in the nation. On the other hand, you do meet the vast majority of the credentials.

Ok, I have taken those 6 APs. Dual credit classes(you take them at a tech school, theyre APs without the AP exam) in US History, Western Civ., Philosophy, and American government. I've had somewhere around 12 honors classes. The basics. 5maths, 4 englishs, 4 sciences, and 11 social studies(my major is history). Those are all honors, dual credit or APs. Oh, I know my unweighted is bad but I did the average grade of mine(unweighted) and its a 95. my Bs are pretty much all 92s. And faggitis, i dont know if you can find it on the internet or not. go into fox news archives It would have been 2006 or 2007. I remember I had an interview but I dont know how long they keep them. Well, I got them out of the smoking plane, did first aid on them (they had some cuts and one had a concussion) and things like that, and helped them down the mountain. But I called the ambulances when we got down to the bottom. And then me and my friends continued our hike.

Here are almost all of my ecs, sorry it comes off as more of a laundry list of things

well that sounds very impressive what you did. With your list of ECs its still kind of iffy for an OOS person but I hope you get in!

Thanks, Faggitis

i agree with faggitis on your chances, wm is getting tougher and tougher to get into. If you were in in-state it would be a shoo-in.

It is irritating. I've gotten into all of SC's schools and their honors colleges. But I want to go out of state. Wish we had a really good state school. Clemson is a good school, but its not William and Mary.

Does anyone have an idea?

If you were in-state, you would be a shoe-in. However, with college admissions getting tougher than ever, I agree with the people that posted before me. It's definitely possible for you to get in, I would place it somewhere between high match and reach, but you never know these days. I do hope you get in though!

Let me see if I can get a couple more answers. bump
