I’m a first year at Cal Poly right now and just recently found out I’ll finish the year at junior standing, so this month I sent a letter to UC Santa cruz with my first quarter transcript and information about myself asking if I could apply as a transfer a little late. They said yes and gave me two weeks to do the app, which I am finishing today. However, I will probably finish the year with a 2.4 or so GPA (I had a 2.3 GPA when I sent in my letter and they knew that). I am applying to the psychology department (I am a psych major at Cal Poly too) and will have all the prereqs and everything. Do you think they’ll take into account the fact that I go to Cal Poly when looking at my GPA? If I don’t get in, I know Winter transfer is possible…should I drop out and go to a community college for first quarter so I can get a higher GPA and do the TAG program to have more of a chance of getting in as a winter transfer?
Why not stay at cal poly?
I think anything under a 3.0 GPA is going to be a tough admit and I really do not think that they care that you have a 2.4 at Cal Poly vs. a community college.
I agree with the above poster ^^^, why are leaving Cal Poly? They have a very reputable Psych program.
If not accepted and you do not want to stay at Cal Poly, I would definitely consider going to a CC and bumping up your GPA. TAG would be a excellent option if you can get your GPA up to 3.0 by Summer 2017 to apply.
