Do I have any shot at all at getting into UCLA? a fairly good chance? I honestly don't know and I'm scared -- So anyways, can you critique my chances please? ^^

well i've no idea, but from what i gather your SAT's may need to be a bit higher. as for clubs, focus on the fact that you played leadership roles (if you did). From what I gather, your GPA looks alright, just nail the retake and gather some impressive SAT II's and all your AP's

I'll be honest: it'll be tough. Your GPA is almost a standard deviation from the median admit, and your current SAT is almost a standard deviation from the median as well. One could maybe be dealt with, but with both being far from the median, you're at best a reach.

However, don't worry too much, as there is always hope! Retake the SAT and do better. If you score that 2100 you're hoping for, you will definitely be in better shape.

Right now, however, you are a reach. Good luck!

What are you doing over the summer? (job, college classes, volunteering) Keep adding to that resume in a way that will make the adcoms notice you!

Well it's definitely possible. There's a girl in the Facebook group that got in with a 2.5 oO;; Not saying it's going to be anything remotely easy, but you have the option of retaking your SATs, having a fabulously intensive summer work/volunteer/intern program going on, and significantly increase your chances. I don't think a 2100 will cut it, try aiming for 2200 or 2150. Your Math IIC is OK.

The average GPA for admitted students is 4.14, however someone with 3.7+ and really good other stuff can reasonably be expected to get in. The GPA is misleading since the actual GPA of people that decide to go is probably noticeably lower. The same logic is what propels the average GPA of places like Riverside to 3.5 and Irvine to 3.8; people apply but don't usually go.

The standard deviation from the mean is ABOUT .3 unweighted. The biggest problem that the OP faces, however, is that getting a higher score on the SAT is by no means guaranteed. If he/she can improve it, and actually pull it over 2000, then it's a slight reach at worst. However, being at least one SD from the mean in both GPA AND SAT puts the OP at reach.

Peppers, your argument is problematic because it doesn't matter who matriculates. It matter's who's admitted.

I see.
How about me?
My UCGPA will be around 3.9ish... and that is less that 1 standard deviation from the mean UCGPA of 4.12 assuming Sx is about .3
My SAT is 2040. slightly above the mean.
SAT II- math IIC-750, chem-680.

I got in with stats similar to that, except my weighted GPA is 4.1 but everything else is the same. I also attended two summer programs, one being Upward Bound and another being SSEP.

My argument is that there are a certain number of people that UCLA is more or less forced to accept despite whether or not they will actually go. Someone with a 4.3 UC GPA, a 2300, good essays, and a ton of ECs will not reasonably be denied entry into the school, therefore despite the fact that this individual is more likely than not not going to matriculate, the school will have to accept them anyways, thus raising the average. Typically, a school will expect these people not to attend and has a somewhat lower, more realistic criteria for the people that actually do want to go to UCLA, which the OP is still slightly lower, but can possibly make amends for by the only way they really can right now; ECs over summer and a much higher SAT score.

I attented Pitzer college and stayed there for 4 weeks in the dorms, and it was great. Summer after that I attended Pomona College, which is nearby and was also a great experience (You learn to be a bit more independent). It looks awesome on your transcript I'm sure, they also provide counseling and stuff.

I go to a rigorous prep school on the East coast. Generally a 3.5 at my school is about a 3.9 or 4.0 at regular public schools. But nobody from my school ever goes to UCLA(or UC's)....

Does this "GPA deflation" thing apply to me?
