Do I have any hope?

I'm an Asian junior going into senior year in New Jersey, and man did I mess up my first 2 years... I pretty much got straight Bs in Freshman year (No honors), straight B+s sophomore year (once again, no honors) and finally in Junior year I've ended up with mostly A/A-s for all my classes and can finally get into the upper level classes.

I am planning on taking 3 APs next year, the max I can take, but I know senior year doesn't count much. I got a 2140 on my SAT which wasn't bad, but given my demographic I don't think it's too impressive. I have plenty of volunteer hours at different places but my extracurriculars are pretty weak - I participate in clubs but don't get involved enough to get officer positions. I am also gonna take 2 SAT subject tests, history and lit, and will probably do decent on those.

I am hoping that if I do well in my first senior semester, colleges can at least notice improvement, but I know it won't be much. All my friends have much better credentials and I don't want to be the mess-up. At this point, I'm scared about even making it into Rutgers, which is essentially the minimum underachiever college in my parent's views.

So with my lowly 3.4 GPA and 2140 SAT score, do you guys think I can get accepted to Rutgers or better?

I am sure you will be able to make it to some good college but you have to work hard and make sure you do well in sat subject tests… Write some outstanding essays and try and do something about your Ec’s if you can…

All the best!!

Note : This is just my view and I dont gaurantee anything …

As long as you are not planning on applying to Pharmacy, Engineering or Computer Science, you should easily get into Rutgers. Personally, I think with your SAT scores and improving junior year grades you have a decent shot at most schools, except the Ivies/ elites. Just do well on the subject tests and Fall semester of senior year.

What will your major be? Do your parents expect certain majors like eng’g, math, physics…and/or something that would be pre-med?

Is that your weighted GPA?

What is your budget? how much will your parents pay? If your parents will pay $60k per year for anywhere you go, there are a lot of good privates (not the top nat’ls) that would except you.

your grades are nothing to upset about! read a book by loren pope
“Colleges That Change Lives” buy it, read it and relax!(not with your school work, with your fear of getting into a great college)
