So this is my first discussion board, so let us see how it goes. whoo

My current situation is that my SAT score is really low, but I mean really low. I got a 1280 ( 490 Reading 410 Math 380 Writing) and it really bums me out.
GPA: W 4.33 UW 3.92
I'm also an IB certificate student for the following subjects: Math, English, Art, Chinese (Mandarin), and History. I will be taking exams during March
I also come from a low socioeconomic status, and hopefully a soon to be first generation college student.
EC: 2 years of Tennis and a few clubs, two I have leadership roles in.

So, the main question is can I get into UCSC, UCB, San Francisco State, Cal State Long Beach, or UCI with my profile looking like this, or should I reconsider my school choices.

Any experiences with a similar situation like this. Where you got accepted to any of these schools with the low SAT, but high GPA. Please share because my anxiety is killing me.Thanks.

I believe literally everyone is capable of attaining a 2000 on the SAT if they study. Retake the SAT and using spaced study. You’re my total inverse actually haha I have a really high SAT, but mediocre GPA.

Retake your SAT and aim for a 1900+ for UCI and UCSC. For UCB, you need to aim for an SAT of 2100+ for any chance. All the schools like high GPA’s but you need a reasonable SAT score to go with that GPA. The Cal states will still be a reach if you cannot increase that SAT score. Like previous posters stated, you need to get some good SAT prep in before your December test.

Is there any way you could apply to test-optional colleges? Your scores are not competitive right now, and it’s highly unlikely you’ll be able to boost them hundreds of points in time for admission this year. Are you in the top 9% of your class? If so, you might qualify for admission to a UC under the “local context” (or whatever it’s called) system.

If you are ELC eligible, UCM would be the UC that will offer you an acceptance, not the UC of your choice unless you raise your score. Have you considered the ACT?

I’m going to be honest and say no, you basically have no chance at all with these scores. Why don’t you study for the SAT? I mean, if you can get study to get such high grades you can surely study to get a high SAT score… and aim for a 1900 this time. Then you’ll have a good chance for these schools
