I have a 30 ACT Composite: 31 English, 32 Reading, 31 Math, 27 Science, 24 Writing
I have scores of 670, 640, and 630 in SAT II US History, Biology, and Math Level 2.
I wrote about my interest in cancer research in my essay and want to major in biology. However, my Science score is lowest on my ACT and my SAT II scores are nowhere near any Ivy League standards.
Do I have an incredibly small chance of acceptance? Will these scores nearly “disqualify” me?
Everyone has an incredibly small chance of acceptance. Your odds are a bit lower, but if you’ve already applied then it’s time to simply hope for the best.
Agree that everyone has a small chance of acceptance. But as you noted your standardized tests are well below the Ivy averages making your chance even smaller. If you want to put in a mega-reach application nobody should stop you, but I would put most of your focus on schools that are better academic matches.
@AsianHope where else did you apply?
Yours would be a Hail Mary application.
Looks like he applied Rutgers, hopefully instate and will be a match. Or safety.
I don’t think you can reasonably expect an Ivy acceptance. Possible but not likely. So put in a more likely reach or two while you have a chance. Unless you are happy with your safety. You science research would be attractive to some schools with your great grades if you want more options come spring.
The whole point of reach schools is that they are a reach. If you didn’t really participate in extra curriculars or summer programs, then yeah, your chances of being accepted are slim. But if your teachers and counselor have fantastic things to say about you, and your essays are well written and show passions, and you display commitment to your passion through ECs, then yeah, I think you have a shot. It won’t be easy, and you need to make sure the rest of your application is perfect to compensate, but there’s always a chance. If you LOVE one of the Ivys and you want nothing other than the chance to attend, I would apply. But if you’re just applying because it’s an ivy, save your time and money and don’t do it.
