Due to my lackluster effort during HS, i have a 3.7-3.75ish weighted GPA, and my class rank will be in the 38-43% range. I have taken all honors/AP courses, but was not a hard worker at all and it is really coming back to bite me.
However, I have a couple things going my way: I took the SAT and hit a 2110(700 M, 700 CR, 710 Wr.). Not a great score, but it is solid. I'm putting in some serious time to see if i can bump that up into the 2200+ range when I take the SAT for a 2nd time beginning of Senior year. I'm taking AP psychology right now at summer school and the class is almost over and I will hopefully have an A in that as long as i don't mess up too bad. If i really work hard next year and get a 4.4ish weighted(4.0 UW) first semester, write good essays, and get an improved SAT will I have a decent chance of getting in? Also do I have to get in updated transcripts before the JAN.1 Wake Forest app. deadline? Or will they still consider it if it gets in after then? First semester ends before that date but our counselors are slow at getting transcripts to schools.

biochemtx, don’t usually reply to chance threads because honestly I think they are kind of meaningless but you do realize that Wake is SAT optional right? You have to submit them once you are accepted but whether or not you submit with your app is up to you. Your scores are fine for Wake but they tend to concentrate on grades, rank, ec’s and essays along with an interivew. The intangibles are pretty important to them. Honestly, for any school you apply to you will have trouble explaining away your lack of effort the first three years of high school (your words not mine). Your rank isn’t great, but I am sure you know that. Your gpa is fine for the right school, I think it could be a bit low for Wake and you didn’t put your unweighted gpa so I am not sure about that. They rely alot on the application itself and what you bring to the table outside the class. But being a top 30 University, they obviously care about grades/rank. I think the SAT optional choice was intended for kids that have great grades/rank but just don’t test well. As for transcripts, you can ask your guidance to submit once you decide to apply and then they will update with midterm grades and, if accepted, a final transcript. Keep on them to make sure it has been sent, does your school use Naviance? If so, it will tell you when they send it out. Good luck and work hard senior year.
