Do I have to complete the Summer Bridge Program?

Hey guys,
Upon checking my conditions of admission, I saw this: “I will enroll in and complete the Summer Bridge Program with required grades.”
Does that mean I have to go to the summer program? Can someone please check their conditions of admission and see if this is in there?
Thanks

Bump? :frowning:

http://slc.berkeley.edu/summer-bridge describes it.

Given the wording, it looks like they really want you to attend Summer Bridge. If you have any more questions ask directly.

@ucbalumnus oh okay ill look into it thanks

Anyone else in the same boat? I wanna know if anyone else is going to this thing

@Ko113g3B0und , my impression is that it’s not required (especially because it costs in excess of 5k), but recommended as a way to get to know the university and its resources while getting a jump on classes. Berkeley has a reputation for being sink or swim; Summer Bridge seems to offer more in the way of hand-holding. My son is coming from a small high school, so he’s thinking of doing this program.

Hi… My daughter didnt get this message. Did you get it in your original letter or did this message appear on the checklist before you submitted your SIR? I would think that if it’s a condition, you are required to attend…

@Vegasbound2020!!! , Summer Bridge is listed as a task on my son’s checklist along with Global Edge study abroad and several other tasks. We accessed the list after SIRing. Just as with study abroad, I doubt that Cal is requiring this program (especially because they note that space is limited) and it’s listed as an option.

@Ko113g3B0und to clarify, Summer Bridge does not show up on my son’s Conditions of Admission Letter at all – it only appears as a Task on his CalCentral dashboard. If it appears in the letter, it seems like Cal is making the program optional for some but required for others. I recommend contacting their office confirmation.
