Do I meet admissions requirements?

Hi, I need opinions on this please. So freshman year I received a D in the second semester of geometry. I’m currently waiting for the results of my final, so I haven’t reported it on the applications.
For UW and UC schools they said you need at least 3 years of math at the level of geometry, algebra, and algebra 2.
If these are my grades/courses, have I met the requirements? I assume there should also be course validation because I did well later on in higher level math courses, but I’m not sure. Could somebody help me out?

Geometry: C-/D- (Idk if I get the credit for second semester)
Algebra 2: A-/B
Trigonometry: A/A
Statistics: In Progress (Does this count in the 3 years requirement?) I know this class doesn’t satisfy any of the algebra classes, but that’s okay since I passed Algebra 2. I’m just worried about the Geometry course: Have I met the 3 year requirement of math classes?

Please help, I really need to know

From UC website:

A yearlong Geometry course (or a math course with Geometry content) must be completed; higher-level math courses will only validate a grade deficiency (D or F) earned in a Geometry course not the omission of a Geometry course (or math course with Geometry content).

So if you passed Algebra II with Trig with a C or higher, then D in Geometry is validated.

@Gumbymom thanks, what about the CSU schools? Like SDSU/Long beach?

Same Math validation

@Gumbymom knows her UC and CSU requirements to agree with her answer. I don’t understand this though

Are you a freshman? Why are you waiting for the results of a final from freshman year? Or are you retaking it?

@“Erin’s Dad” I am assuming OP retook the Semester to replace the D but I should have also clarified that comment.

@Gumbymom @“Erin’s Dad” I’m a senior who hasn’t submitted her application yet. Because I took the class online, I have to wait for the results of my final to get back to me so that I can get my final grade. I’m wondering if I can update UC schools and other schools with the information after I get the results back.

You cannot update grades once the UC application is submitted. When do you expect your final grade since i would not wait any longer to submit the application than 2 days prior to due date? You did state that you are taking the on-line course correct? That should be sufficient since you have already validated the D grade by taking a higher Math course. Your D is also not included in your GPA calculation, so as long as the UC’s know you are retaking the semester, you should be fine. If there are any questions or concerns regarding your application, the UC’s do send out supplemental reviews for a small percentage of applicants. You can send in updated grades if you are asked then.

UC’s only want an update on grades if you get D’s or F’s Senior year.

Freshmen: If you change schools, add or drop a course, or fail to earn a C or better in a course after you submit your application, you must notify the UC Application Center by email or postal mail. Your correspondence must include your name, UC Application ID number and your signature (if you mail a letter), and will be available to all the campuses to which you applied.

If you receive an offer of admission, be sure to confirm with the campus admission office that they are aware of the deficient grade or schedule changes. Although you must notify the campus of these changes, we cannot guarantee that a campus can go back to review an application after correspondence has been received. Make sure to save a copy of your correspondence just in case.

@Gumbymom Do you think they’ll look down on me really negatively? I have a giant trend of improvement from freshman year, which I started with a 2.8, and to junior year, which I ended with a 4.33. I’m super scared it’ll just affect chances of admission.

@Gumbymom CSU schools are the same way, right? Or does validation differ by school or is it all of them have the same policy?

Here is a link for the Math/English validation for CSU’s and UC’s. I am just wondering why you waited until Senior year to repeat the semester of Geometry which you took Freshman year? An upward grade trend will help your chances. Since you passed a higher level Math course which validates your D in Geometry, it does show you are a capable student and understand the higher level Math material. Having 1 bad grade will not be an automatic rejection especially since the D is not included in your UC GPA calculation. The UC’s factor in all aspects of your application but unless you get the final grade by the Nov 30th application deadline, it is really out of your hands at this point.

@Gumbymom haha, no I started it the summer after junior year and just finished now. Does validation just clear the deficiency?

Validation clears the deficiency.

@Gumbymom so just to be clear, it would’ve been okay if I didn’t retake the course anyway? So does validation mean I don’t have to retake because the course grade is already validated?

From the UC website;
A standalone Trigonometry course validates a deficient 2nd semester grade in Geometry, and validates subject
omissions and grade deficiencies in Alg l /Math I and Alg II/Math Ill.

Since you listed Trigonometry as a standalone course you have validated the D in Geometry. I would still complete the course although according to the Validation Matrix you are fine only to make sure that you can prove to the UC admissions you are able to understand the material. With the competitive nature of all the UC’s, you want to make sure you present the best and most competitive application possible.

You need to submit your application, YESTERDAY!
Our system always tends to crash towards November 30th because everyone waits until the last minute to apply.

It gets overloaded, and they’ve tried to prevent crashes with more IT help but the system gets overwhelmed.

I hope you’ve at least saved your work on the UC app?

@Gumbymom Okay, yeah it’s going to be finished I just wanted to make sure that I was still fine to apply and everything. Thanks for the help!

@“aunt bea” oh don’t worry about it. Everything on the UC app is already filled out. It’s ready to submit but I wanted to make sure.
