I’m a junior and so far, I have taken only US History. I have taken ap psych and ap human geography. They put me in AP Human instead of world history freshman year because I had good grades in middle school. I can graduate with only taking these classes, but I am curious to know that if I only have us history, will colleges care? I can take world history as a senior, with all freshman, but I’m not sure if it is necessary.
Check each college of interest. Most require 2-3 years History/Social Sciences which can include US History, World History, European History, Government/Civics. AP Human Geo is usually considered a Social science elective.
As a junior, you should be looking into possible colleges and what course ranges they ask for. It’s not just about meeting your high school’s minimums.
Some colleges require three years. Purdue is one example.
What social science /history class is offered to seniors?
What do you want to major in at college? If humanities, definitely take more.
If STEM, maybe take Economics or something. Make sure you meet your HS/State graduation requirements.
My state requires 3 social studies including econ and gov and us history and world history I’m not sure what I want to major in. I will definitely meet the social studies standard, but I am concerned strictly about the history part.
As a senior i can take world history, ap euro, or ap world. I am not gonna take an AP history class as a senior so i would take regular world history. My counselor never said I had to take world history so I assumed AP human replaced that. Would colleges look at it that way
Why wouldn’t you take an AP history class senior year? Both euro and world are seen as strong APs and they often get college credit, saving you from taking it in college instead of another class you’d like to take.
I would double check with your guidance counselor that AP human geography replaces world history for graduation. I just know it would not here. When it comes to applying to college you will be up against many others who have an actual world history class so could possibly put you at a disadvantage.
In order not to conflate the questions of “What does the OP need to graduate” vs "What should the OP have for college admissions, I wish to offer the following:
For the OP’s state, APHG satisfies the world history requirement.
Thereis not a one-size-fits-all answer to this.It depends upon the college. Look at the Common Data Sets for your target colleges under section C5 to see what they require/recommend. For example, you’ve previously mentioned Vandy, so here’s their CDS.

The require 2 years of social studies and one year of history, so you’re covered. However, they recommend 3 years of social studies and one year of history. So here you may be lacking, depending upon what other courses you are taking. Here’s what they further say:

So the short answer to your original question is: it depends.
