I received a new laptop for graduation, and I was wondering if I really need a laptop backpack. I have my backpack that I used during high school, and I don't want to shell out the money for a new laptop-specialized backpack if my current backpack will suffice. Any opinions?

If it fits in your normal backpack then it’ll be fine. If you’re worried about scratches or something get a case.

Assuming your laptop isn’t too big, a Fex ex bubblewrap envelope protected laptops very well IME. Used them myself long long ago in college without issues. :)

Get a sleeve and then put in your backpack.

Regular backpack will be fine, as long as you don’t mind a fair amount of cosmetic damage.

Buy a case (I have one of those super flexible, super padded sleeves they sell every where) and use a normal bag. I have a regular messenger bag (with no specialized laptop holder).

A very good backpack that’s specialized for your computer is totally worth the $80-$100 you’ll spend. After all, this computer will be your best friend thru college and deserves to be treated well in its padded storage area. And the extra pockets for a mouse, charger, flash drives, DVDs, etc. make it worth the price. I bought a “Swiss Army” brand, and LOVE IT!

If there’s a fair amount of cosmetic damage, the laptop’s build quality/materials used is crap and/or it’s being jammed into one’s backpack rather than gently slipped in as a result of being packed badly or other books/stuff being haphazardly arranged inside a backpack.

I ended up getting a backpack from hp. Out was an $80 backpack that I got for $25 with their student buying program. It looks like it fits my needs perfectly!
