Hello, I have a vehicle but I'm not sure if i should bring it or not from Kansas. Do I need a vehicle? Do I need a vehicle if I'm rushing/joining a fraternity(not sure if that matters or not)?

No, you will not need a car for rush. Search the forum. There are some disadvantages to freshman having cars related to parking.

There’s no reason to have a car since everything is in bussing distance.

No need for a car in B-Town. The campus is relatively compact, there’s a great shuttle system and your student ID works as a free pass for Bloomington Transit city buses. I’m a graduate student and don’t have a car - no sense spending that money if I don’t have to!

It’s convenient, but is by no means essential. I had a car all 4 years because I lived too close to fly but too far to make my dad drive to come get me, load up, and drive back. After freshman year, it also becomes convenient when you live off campus, so you don’t have to haul your groceries back on a bus.

In terms of pledging, you can borrow pledge brothers’ cars or brothers will lend out their car to use…just gas money will be required.

Okay thanks… I was just told the other day I would get the parking permit to park at the stadium and it kind of sounds like a hassle.

Did IU tell you that?

They sent me an email.

Don’t bring a car. D spots are big hassles because you have to move them constantly for games.

Do you mean an E permit? That’s what I got.

Stadium parking permits are a hassle.

Most of the people I know with cars chose not to bring theirs to campus until sophomore year. I think this is a good option. Moving your car all the time is a pain and one more thing you’ll have to worry about. If you plan to join a fraternity and you live in the house next year you can park in your house’s parking lot which is much more convenient/less annoying than having a permit that doesn’t even let you park by your dorm.
