Do I need three language credits to get in?

I am still in HS and choosing courses for next year. I want to major in journalism and Newhouse is my #2 school. My #1 is a reach school though, so my odds for Syracuse are better.

I have a challenging curriculum and go to a magnet hs, that has every course you could dream of taking. My issue is, I saw that Syracuse "recommends" taking a minimum of 3 language credits, while my #1 school requires 2. If I take that third language credit, I will have to drop a course that is really important to me.

Did anyone get into Syracuse with only two foreign language credits? I have the same problem with Science, I only want to take 3 years of science, but Syracuse "recommends" 4.

I don't want to ruin my chance of getting accepted, but at the same time don't want to drop a class that I excel in and could open doors for me.

Yes, my daughter was accepted with only 2 language classes and 3 sciences. We asked about this before she applied (on our tour last fall) and were told those are recommended requirements.

On the other hand, when you see “recommends” on any admissions website, it is advisable to read this as “requires” if you want to submit a strong application. Also, you may want to apply somewhere not yet on your radar. Think it over carefully. My son was accepted to Newhouse and I am sure his 4 years of both language and science helped.

I only took 3 years of science and didn’t have a problem. I have taken 4 years of languages though.

Piefam, I sent you a “private message” for further info.
