Do i need to inform colleges that i changed classes

I have switch classes in the second semester of my senior year. I change an elective class (Senior Seminar) to another elective class (Comparative Religions). So the question is, should I notify this switch to the admissions offices of all my collegss. Thanks for the help!

Yes. If your official senior transcript doesn’t end up verifying the courses you informed them you were taking, it’ll be an issue.

Interesting because my counselor said that since it’s an elective course it is not a signifigant problem. So I’m just curious, is chaning courses at this time of the year (in my particular case) frowned upon?

If you’re dropping a core subject for something like Drawing and Painting 1, that might be a problem. I don’t think changing an elective class would be; it’s just important that the colleges you applied to know.

So I should send the admissions office an email? Anyone else got any comments?

If it’s an elective and you can reasonably justify the change, I don’t think it will hurt your chances. I would just make sure you tell the college WHY you chose to drop the class. I think mostly they don’t want you to change your classes senior year to really easy classes, but it doesn’t sound like the case for you (though I’m not familiar with your school’s Senior seminar or comparitive religions class).

You should definitely let them know, but I seriously doubt it would be frowned upon at all. Just follow individual colleges’ instructions for how to update your application, and then don’t worry about it.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. Just one more thing. If it is a pretty personal reason, do I need to tell them why?

Also so I need to immediately inform them? Can I tell them sometime in mid-March. I’m pretty paranoid this might affect my application.

I think you should tell them now, but I really wouldn’t worry about it affecting your application. a) It’s not like you’re dropping classes to take a much easier schedule, you’re just switching two electives. b) It’s your second semester senior year–probably the least important classes of your time in high school. I’m essentially not taking a seventh class next semester (student aide-ing), it’s on all my applications, and I still got into Yale EA. Just let them know as soon as you can (I doubt you’ll have to say why unless they ask; they’ll probably just assume it’s for scheduling reasons), and then really don’t worry about it.

My D is dropping her elective, and we were told by our GC that they need to let the schools know right away. I, too, feel worried that it might affect the admissions decisions, but she’s pretty adamant about dropping it. The irony is, if she had said before college submissions that she wasn’t going to continue in the second semester, it wouldn’t be an issue at all.
