Do I need to take a science course senior year?

Hi everyone! I recently had some scheduling conflicts and finally sorted everything out. Looks like I will be doubling up on English, taking 3 languages (two at level 1 and one at level 4), history, math, and no science. Would dropping science lower my chances of getting into colleges? I have already taken 3 years of sciences and am definitely not gonna pursue a degree in STEM. Please help an anxious kid out. Thank you!

Why 3 languages? Did you take Chemistry/Physics and Biology for your science classes?

Can you list your actual classes?

@Gumbymom @MYOS1634 - I have taken chemistry, bio, and comp sci. I am taking Spanish 4, Latin & Greek at level 1. The reason is that advance comp sci didn’t fit in my schedule and I do not think I am ready to take advance Bio/Chem/Physics. And my school only has advanced science classes – no AP/honors/Advanced English, history, or language classes. I am fluent in four other languages. I cannot list my English and history electives due to privacy reasons.

I would start by asking your guidance counselor if cs counts as a lab science for your high school graduation requirements if needed and if colleges that look for 3 years of lab science classes count it. I know at our local public school CS is a math elective and does not fulfill one of the 3 lab science classes needed to get a high school diploma. It also doesn’t fulfill one of the 4 math credits needed to graduate. However it is a nice elective to have for someone interested in computers.

Can you take a different science? My school has honors forensic science that is a lab science class that is popular. There is also a college prep environmental science class. Are you able to take dual enrollment to take a science class or to change one of the language classes if desired?

@momtogirls2 - Thank you for your response! CS does count as a lab science. My only choices are Engineering and Robotic (both are semester-long classes). I could take those instead of Greek, but I personally do not want to because they’re considered to be the easiest science classes. I cannot take DE classes. No one has ever taken any dual enrollment classes at my school before.

Have you checked all of the colleges you could be interested in how much and which science they want to see, and whether CS counts as one?

Sounds like your particular choices make sense for your particular case . Do you want to major in classics or history?

@MYOS1634 - I want to major in English Literature/Philosophy and Education Studies.
@ucbalumnus - No, I have not. I will do that now. thank you.

See if you can take dual enrollment philosophy classes.
