Do I need to take SAT?

hello all. I attended Laguardia CC in fall 2012, and I will graduate with A.S. in computer science in this fall. I have completed 44 credits so far with a GPA of 3.97, and I am confident to graduate with a GPA of 3.9+. I am searching for colleges with good computer science program now. The problem is that many of the top colleges especially IVY colleges require SAT scores. I graduated from HS in 2002 and had bad SAT score at that time, then I attended UConn for one and half year and dropped out because of so many issues. I would like to know that do I need to take SAT? Does it matter? I took SAT 10 years ago, and I don't think it counts any more. The thing is if I transfer, I will be a junior instead of freshmen, so do I still need to submit SAT scores if I want to attend top college?

You need to check each college website to see what they require for transfer applicants. Your SAT, if needed, will be too old and it sounds like a new score will only benefit you anyway.

Note that most if not all colleges will require transcripts from every college you have attended.

yeah, I have checked their sites. because I am not planning to take SAT again, I might omit those requiring SAT colleges when I will apply in few weeks.

^You don’t want to be that creepy 29 year old in the SAT room? ;)

I want to apply to Dartmouth so I have to take the SAT. I had pretty good
SATs but they are over 10 years old and therefore are not eligible. If you are looking at Ivies you will have to take the SAT :frowning:
But, the good thing is that schools like the Ivies that require standardized tests usually give good aid so it might be worth it. Also, since you have taken college level classes you will likely do well on the SAT; it’s not guaranteed but it makes sense that someone with an associate’s who took college math, science, and writing would do well.

it is weird to sit with 15, 16 years old. I don’t mean I will be in IVY, but in this way, I might not even try to apply.

Yes, without SAT/ACT scores you application most likely won’t even be looked at by Ivies. And honestly, it’s a test that is one day of sitting with teenagers for a few hours. You don’t have to talk to them, just take your test, and leave when you have finished. I suggest looking for a CC to take the test at if that is one of the optional testing centers for your area- it is much more likely to have adults taking the test, imo.

How many years old can SAT scores be before they are ineligible, anyone here know?

^It probably depends on the school.

Official score reports that are sent to colleges five or more years after a test date are accompanied by a message explaining that they may be less valid predictors of college academic performance than more recent scores.
