Do I need to tell colleges this?

In the fall, I applied to NHS, and was accepted. I applied to colleges (some selective private schools & UCs), and listed NHS as one of my activities.

About a month later, the school decided the NHS constitution needed to be rewritten, and everyone was asked to reapply. Other stuff happened, and the whole process got so convoluted that I got fed up and ended up not reapplying.

Do I need to write to all the colleges I applied to and tell them this, just to be safe?

I also just received notification of being a NM finalist. Should I also mention that in the letter?

Update about NM, don’t about NHS. You were a member of NHS at the time of application, and it’s really not a standout EC (unless you are president or something).

But if you only need to be a part of your ECs actually at the time of your application, what is preventing all the seniors from dropping everything as soon as they’re done applying?

^Or take on some more. Mine did.

Because hopefully you’re doing ECs because you enjoy them and not to try and impress admissions officers.

I actually wound up getting more involved in my ECs towards the end of my senior year as my workload lightened up and I had a lot more time for the fun parts of my day.

I doubt that membership in NHS affects one’s college application. You were truthful when you applied and that should suffice. Your high school, however, is being inconsiderate of its students with pending college applications.

NHS isn’t likely to make/break your application. National Merit, however, is an achievement. Make SURE they know.

I called the schools that my D applied and they said to send in update about NMF. I almost thought it was not a big deal but after reading this threat, I’m glad I called.
