Everyone's saying that all apartments close to campus get full before Summer and that if I want to not be homeless next year, I need to sign a lease now. I'm talking about stuff on West Call; not the really fancy stuff on the other side. I don't think this is true because I know people who got denied housing because of bad priority numbers last year and found a place to live.

Also, do I have to do that returners FSU housing contract thing now? Like if I don't do it now, will I have no chance of living in McCollum or Rogers next year? I basically asked this to FSU Housing and she said I really need to if I want ANY chance of being on campus because they're just SOOOO full this coming year on campus, but I know it was a load of crap because they extended the deadline for the reutner's contract a week. And I heard there's always spaces in Rogers even if you sign up in the Summer.

I'm not sure what I wanna do yet. (I'd like to live off campus but am not sure I'll be able to attend FSU next Fall (won't know til Summer) and on-campus has a much better cancellation policy). Is there really that much pressure to go run out and sign a lease/pay FSU's on campus contract right now?

Yes, FSU Housing contracts are due (in fact, I believe they’re past due now… pretty sure the deadline was last week) now. Housing places all of the returning residents around Spring Break, so that they get a good idea of what spots will be available for new students- some returning residents don’t move into the returning-only dorms. Housing’s going to assign every returning resident by the end of March; if you haven’t applied by then you very well may not get into any housing.

Yes, Rogers fills up over the summer- for NEW residents (new grad students, transfer students, etc). A lot of the spots in Rogers are reserved for incoming residents that are upper-division, not for people that didn’t fill out the contract.

Other places off campus will fill up over time. There’s no big rush to do it now, but obviously the longer you wait the fewer choices you will have. Yes, I have friends that have already signed their lease for next year. And I have friends that I’m sure will start their search in a couple months.

Yeah I did the contract last week just didn’t pay (that’s due in a few days, trying to make up my mind about what I wanna do real quick). Thanks for helping though.
