Do I really need calculus and physics

I am taking calculus and physics but am failing calc. If I drop the course, I get an F anyway on my transcript. Should I stick it out? Does it make a difference in what colleges want? I am not going to be a science major, but I thought this would be needed to get into college. If I drop the course, does it nullify my chances of getting into a college? I am stressed and discouraged. Please help.

If you are failing and don’t intend to go into a technical field then drop it. An end of year F is just not good.

You do not need to take calculus in high school in order to be admitted to college.

Go meet with your calculus teacher. Find out what you would need to do to pull your grade up a bit so that you don’t end up with an F on your transcript. That is what will have a bad affect on your college applications. See if you can arrange for an Incomplete instead, and then finish the classwork at a slower pace later this year.

No D or F. Does your school allow you to take classes Pass/Fail, which would allow you to possibly stick it out? If not, and you (after speaking to your teacher) don’t see a path to at least a C (maybe a B depending on the selectivity of schools you are applying to), then drop.

I agree with the other posters with the caveat that if you are planning to be a STEM major, you will be at a disadvantage without those classes (at selective colleges). If you are not planning to be a STEM major, you should be okay. I encourage you to check each college’s requirements anyway since some do require four years of math and science. Depending on your school’s rules, it may be too late in the school year to replace calculus with another math class.
