Do I stand a good chance as a junior (School of engineering)

GPA: Weighted ~4.5
Non Weighted ~3.8

SAT: took it twice, highest score is 1980, I plan to study like heck for my 3rd try
ACT: I plan on taking ACT to see if that test is more for me

SAT IIs: I plan to take Math Level 2, US History, and Physics
Rank: Top 3 percent.

Completed/Currently enrolled AP courses: Euro History, Chemistry, Art History (Independent Study), Physics B, US History, Calculus BC, AP Lang and Comp

Senior Year (already planned) AP courses: US Gov, Comparative Gov, English Lit, French 4, Physics c, Prob and Stat

** I also hope to take courses at my local community college (Linear Algebra and Differential Calculus). I don't know if this will also look better on my application. Hopefully it can make up for my lack of EC activities **

I think my weakest areas are SAT score and community service/extra curricular activities.
I just really want to know if I've positioned myself in a good spot or in a bad spot and what University of Michigan really focuses on.

Thanks!

bump…

out of state, also.

What’s your SAT score breakdown? Right now it’s looking like a reach.

I would say slight reach to match. But yeah, what is your SAT breakdown?

i think u’re a match. Dig around for general advices.

?

What is it about this guy that makes him a reach, and all the countless other OOS students with a 3.8, 2000ish SAT with fewer APs a match? The lack of meaningless ECs and volunteering at businesses or something?

I’m not going to chance you, but I think you do have a good chance. It’s hard to say, since the admissions breakdown is going to change dramatically now that they aren’t recalculating grades, and that they’re going on the common application, but I think you’re pretty decent.

I got into engineering for this coming fall with a 3.6 unweighted and 4.1 weighted with 1980 on SAT, so I’d say u would most likely get in.

he has solid GPA, which is good, but he’s an out of state applicant, so saying that “most likely” he’ll get in is slightly pushing it. He has a good chance to get in, however.

What does University of Michigan mainly focus on, especially for a Out of state applicant?
690 Math
670 Writing
620 CR

GPA and course load are generally considered more so at Michigan than other universities, and test scores less.

hmmm that sounds good since I think GPA and course load are my strongest aspects, especially if I take extra courses at community colleges
