I had a 3.08 gpa my freshman year and I am absolutely fearful it may prevent me from the colleges that I hope to go to..Stanford, Cornell, ect. I am a sophomore with a current 4.0 gpa, and my college list is short because I am unsure what I should be looking at. Do I still have a chance at some good schools if I were to great test scores and be involved and such. Do I have any chance at all? -Feel free to name some colleges that I might have a chance at-

Your freshman year will hurt your overall GPA, but sophomore and junior years are the most important, along with the first half of your senior year. Make sure you’re maintaining that 4.0 and taking a courseload that is indicative of someone who has tried to challenge themselves throughout high school. Leadership and involvement in subjects you are passionate about, awards, recommendations, college essays, and scores are all things you can use to negate a lower GPA. You should always apply to some safeties or matches when also applying to top tier schools. I can’t name any specific ones based just on your GPA.

Edit: Good luck, and don’t sweat it. Just keep working hard and you’ll end up where you’re meant to be.

You’ll be fine if you maintain a 4.0 sophomore and junior yr. That doesn’t mean you’ll get in, but it means you’ll be a good enough competitor.

Some schools do not even count freshmen grades.
