Hola Everybody. I know this might sound like I'm overreacting alot, but I can't help it. I am a sophmore in High School and the year is almost over. Right now I have a 3.2 GPA (Freshman year) & I am included in the 30% of my class the will get a $5,000 scholarship. This summer I'm planning to try an internship at a law firm and finding a job to save money for college. My questions are:

-Would I still probably have a good chance at being accepted into a good College?
-What extra-curricular activities would you suggest to help me out?
-Do I still have time to raise my GPA?

I know these questions are almost rhetorical, but I would like to know other peoples opinions.

Please & Thank You :)

If you don’t work to raise that GPA, then no.
2.Work Experience is good, if you want to combine your interests, joined something like Mock Trial, Model UN, and other debate like thingy. Also, take AP U.S Governemnt if offered at your school.

Yes, definitely.

I wouldn’t consider you to be overreacting. More and more people are applying to college every year and the competition level increases with it. As long as you don’t obsess, it’s a good thing that you are concerned about your future.

Obviously what you need to do is focus and getting good grades and get some extracurriculars for your application. I suggest joining a service club at school like S-Club or Interact. Also try joining a sport of some sort. Do something that will prove on paper that you are a well-rounded student.

As to raising your GPA, thats all up to you. Join AP classes and commit yourself to raising it up. AP Classes help raise your weighted GPA and could increase your class ranking. In California, if you are ranked high enough (top 4% of your class) you get an ELC number and are guaranteed at least one UC (though not Berkeley or UCLA, more like Davis or Irvine).

And as to a good college, again this is up to you. What do you consider good? What are some more realistic options for you?

I hope this helps. No one really helped me out when i was younger and i had questions.

I do plan to raise my GPA. My goal is between 3.6-4.0 (or higher if there is, still a little confused). Right now I am part of the Step Team at my school, but for the past summers since 7th grade I would go to educational programs like the Governors School or the W.I.S.E program at Clemson University. As for AP classes I would have to take them during my Senior year probably because my school already put in all the classes that I will take for my Junior year & I can’t change them.

Thank You For All The Advice :)

you want at least a 3.8 to get into top 25 schools if you dont have hooks
