I’m thinking of applying to UC Berkeley, but I’m not sure if I could get in. My grades sophomore year weren’t great (I think I had like a 3.5 unweighted) but my junior year grades are fantastic. I go to a rigorous prep school in New England so colleges usually consider how much more difficult our curriculum is relative to public schools and I’m taking pretty much the most challenging courseload possible. I also have good EC’s and a lot of leadership positions + community service hours. Do you think this will be enough to offset my abysmal sophomore year?
How many students from your high school got into Berkeley this year?
Perhaps you can use that as a benchmark and compare your stats against theirs.
@StevenToCollege 43 people from my school applied and 5 got in. The average cumulative GPA (which at my school only includes junior year) was about the same as my GPA
UCB uses the unweighted GPA, the UC capped weighted GPA and the Fully Weighted GPA for admission consideration based on 10-11th grades. Tests scores/essays/HS course rigor and EC’s all contribute to your application package.
You have listed your EC’s so what are your test scores? Are you in the 50th percentile or above in your stats? What is your intended major? Is your family able to afford $55K/year without financial aid?
GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students
High School UC GPA (capped weighted): 4.12 - 4.30
ACT Composite Score: 30 - 34
SAT Critical Reading: 630 - 750
SAT Mathematics: 660 - 780
