Do I still have hope?

Do I still have hope of getting into UCLA/UC Berkeley?

ECs/volunteer/etc:
Just assume that they're above average (one major "passion" + a few school clubs and other activities)

I know that UCLA/UCB probably favor grades over standardized test scores, so my GPA sets me back a lot. Do you think a really good essay might be able to get me considered? Also what kind of reach would UCLA/UCB be for me (low, mid, high)? Be brutally honest please.

Extra note: My parents won't have any problems paying, even for OOS costs

Last year, UCLA’s admitted average GPA is about 4.35 weighted (if my memory is correct). Your 2200 SAT score is above average for UCLA, if you can raise it to 2300, it will help a bit. I heard that UCLA emphasizes ECs more than Berkeley. If you can write an excellent essay, I don’t think it’s a high reach.

Thanks! Do you know if that 4.35 average is uncapped or capped? Because I think the last time I checked the average accept GPA for UCLA, it was 4.18 or something, and that was probably uncapped.

I’m not sure if it’s uncapped or capped. I remember that the number (4.35) was from a college application seminar me and my son went last summer. But I am only like 80% sure.

Thanks for the help!

Take a look of this. The UCLA admitted students profile-Fall 2011:

You can get a better idea. Good Luck!
