Do I still qualify for UC admissions?

<p>Well currently, I'm a Junior in Highschool and I did very bad my freshman year. I heard that UC's and Cal States generally don't look at your freshman gpa, but they look to see if you are on the right track. That being said, I didn't care about my freshman year so I practically got Cs and Bs, but in my 2nd semester, I got a D in my mandarin class. I'm wondering if I would have to retake the 2nd semester of mandarin to even qualify to get into a UC? Also, I decided to switch languages that year as well, so my sophomore year I took Spanish and have been getting A's ever since.</p>

<p>Sophomore year I was in ASB as Sophomore Class Treasurer, and junior year, I am active in CSF, Key Club, and Leo Club. I also started a club in my school my Junior year.</p>

<p>My freshman year GPA was 2.41.
My Sophomore year GPA was 3.41
My Junior year GPA (at the moment) is 3.83</p>

<p>Will UC's still accept me if I don't retake the 2nd Semester of Mandarin?</p>

<p>You will need at least 2 years of a foreign language, and they recommend three, so if you take a second year of Spanish that will satisfy your eligility requirement (and take a third year to be in a better position admissions-wise at the more selective UCs). </p>

<p>The UCs do not use the freshman year GPA to determine eligibility.</p>

<p>Sorry for the bump, but the thing that worries me is when they say “Earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better (3.4 if you’re a nonresident) in these courses with no grade lower than a C.” This worries me because I got a D in mandarin my freshman year, but I believe it shouldn’t count since I switched languages, so mandarin is like an extra curricular i think? Please help me understand what they mean here.</p>

<p>And 1st Semester ended, and I got my 4.0 :)</p>

<p>best way to really know for sure is to go to the undergraduate admission office of your closest UC and ask to speak to an admission folk …</p>
