hi, i'm a singaporean chinese student, admitted into the ND class of 2017. i heard that there's very little diversity at ND and people look aren't used to asians, and i'm worried that i won't fit in, especially since i'm not even american. could anyone with experience share on this topic? thank you so much!

Gossip, innuendo and make believe. You will be treated very well at ND. Stop listening to the sewing circle gossip and enjoy a truly great American University. GL

My daughter is a soph and one of her roomates is from Hong Kong. She is a doll, fits in well, treated well, they have a blast together, and she has become one of the loudest cheering the football team of any of them. You will have a great experience.

The Notre Dame student body has about the same percentage of Asian students as the US population as a whole – 5 or 6%. There are a number of other American universities with higher percentages of Asian students, but those schools are actually LESS “diverse” because other racial groups are under-represented. There are probably more Asian international students at Notre Dame than there are American students at a comparably-sized university in Singapore, for what it’s worth. One of the benefits of attending an overseas university is experiencing a different culture, which means that you won’t actually be surrounded by folks who look and talk like you. Even though Notre Dame is located in northwest Indiana, rather than a major metro area, this isn’t 1950. People are familiar with Asians here. No worries.
