Do law schools take senior grades into account?

So I'm currently a Sophomore in college and I have a pretty low cumulative GPA due to some family issues I've been having to deal with, which of course I will explain in my application. My grades have consistently been getting better, so I'm hoping law schools will be happy about that at least.

My question is, do you think it'd be better for me to apply to law school after my first semester of senior year? around January~February so I'll have more time to boost my GPA up a little before they look at my application

My ultimate goal is to have a 3.2 GPA when i graduate with a 170 LSAT score.

January/February is very late in the application process. By the time, your information is sent from the LSDAS and your application goes to committee, it is February/March. Remember that schools operate on a rolling admissions basis where it really is to your advantage to apply early. If you cannot get the application in early, you would be better off waiting and applying the next cycle.
