Do most people use the additional info section of the Common App?

I for one didn't use the additional info just because I didn't have any extenuating circumstances that my guidance counselor didn't mention. I was just wondering if this at all negatively impacts my application and if most people use this section. I might consider using it for regular decision apps, if people advise to..

I had 14 EC’s and 7 honors so I just put the excess ones there. I also put a note about self-studying. Most dont use it. But it is a good idea if there is something that would have otherwise been left off of your application due to lack of space. And you can format/explain without character limits…

I attached an additional resume because I had more awards than would fit on the Common App and to allow myself 1-2 sentences to describe each activity/give context to my awards.

My sense is that you should submit something extra only if it will provide additional (not repeated) information.

I took some classes at a local technical college and the Common App instructed me to list the classes in the additional info section. Also, one of my activities is hard to understand without explanation so I expanded on it.

No and no (CC is not the norm).
