I noticed that RPI dorms do not close over Thanksgiving. I also read somewhere that some people like to stay and study because finals are fairly soon after Thanksgiving. What is the norm, and if a student stays, what do they do for food?

Some stay, some go. My son stayed so he could study. He has a fridge and microwave in his room so I loaded him up with food to microwave. There is some food options on Hoosick street, which is not a short walk, but your child could take the bus. Pizza places deliver also.

Thanks. Any idea of the percentage who stay? I guess I better hold off buying plane tickets home.

10-20% maybe? As they got older my friends from farther away tended to stay through – it was just a big hassle to go home.

My son would not dream of staying. The drom food isnt that good and going home is a good time to unwind. There is plenty of time to study before finals such that he/she should not view this holiday as required study time.

I bought the plane ticket as oon as they are available.
