Do New York University Tisch students walk across the stage at the Tisch Salute?

No they don’t. There are too many graduates when all of Tisch is together. I believe in the separate Drama department festivities, individuals are singled out.

Was just checking the NYU website last night and came across the graduation ceremony website.

Ceremony[/url”>http://www.nyu.edu/life/events-traditions/commencement/ceremony.html]Ceremony

"Because over 5,000 students are expected to attend, it is not possible to recognize each individual by name. Instead the deans will introduce each class as a whole and a representative selected in advance will receive a symbolic diploma for degree categories. All students are required to stay until ALL schools’ class representatives have received their symbolic diplomas. OFFICIAL conferring of degrees for ALL schools will follow.

(Diplomas are mailed to the graduates’ permanent addresses by the Office of the University Registrar approximately eight weeks following the date of graduation.)

In addition to the All-University Commencement, each of the 13 schools and colleges may host individual school graduations and/or receptions. These smaller, more intimate ceremonies are held at various venues at the University and around New York City."

Paradise is referring, however, to the NYU graduation ceremony, not the Tisch one. There are two graduation ceremonies, one for all of NYU (was at Yankee Stadium in my D’s year) and one for all of Tisch, which was at Madison Square Garden in my D’s year. The latter one is the Tisch Salute which the OP here is asking about.

At the Tisch Salute, each graduate does march in across the stage and you can see your child in that, but there is no individual awarding of the diplomas which are mailed to the student. But there is a photo op if you see your kid march in across the stage to their seats. No reading of names, but they are all in the booklet. Also, there are some performances on stage, and it so happened that my D was in one of those on the stage at her graduation but not all students are in that.

I’m a Professor in the Drama dept, I was at Tisch Salute last year and graduates to NOT walk on the stage unless they are being awarded Phds. At the individual department awards, however, individual students are honored.

Just to clarify…at my D’s graduation at Tisch Salute in 2009, no, they did not have names read or walk on stage to receive a diploma. But the entire group of Tisch graduates marched in a procession into the theater, as did all the faculty, by department (ie., drama department, film, etc.) and they entered through the stage and into the audience at the theater that is at Madison Square Garden. It was the processional. I was able to get photos of my kid since they came in as a line.

Well feeling excited about Tisch Salute and 2012 Yankee Stadium. DD is graduating this year, ( a year earlier whoo too!!) from the NMTC at Playwrights. Can anyone fill me in? Some of the students in the stadium have Baseball caps on did they pass them out? Any tricks to getting to the stadium by subway? Or seating ourselves? Any idea what we should wear as parents or does it matter. This is our 5th and last child and although two have masters, one a Phd , this is our first and last to walk… for lots of reasons and we want to enjoy every minute of this experience. Soozievt, thanks for being here for the last 5 years, Ive really enjoyed your help, your posts and your knowledge. Hopefully our daughters who are both SDM alums too will have that “secret handshake” sometimes in the future!

averagetim, I’m not sure who your D is and so maybe let me know through email sometime! I’m in NYC right now and not online much. My D continues to perform with, work with, and be friends with SDM alum…lots!

They gave out the purple NYU baseball caps to everyone who attended, if I recall, at Yankee Stadium. We went by car. Parents wore anything and everything. I chose to wear a sleeveless dress. It was a sunny very warm day sitting in the stands on my D’s graduation day. The Tischies were all seated in one section. It was a glorious day but a very big event, compared to the Tisch graduation at Madison Square Garden.

Congrats to your D!
