Do non music majors have a good chance being in ensembles?

For a violinist specifically, what are the chances of getting into a string ensemble at IWU ?

My friend who is an exchange student from Japan plays in the string ensemble (violin!). She also played in the Aria/ Concerto show last weekend and accompanied for the Founders Day Convocation.

do you happen to know how big the string ensemble is?

Joe, my daughter plays harp rather than violin. But despite the fact that IWU does not have a harp instructor on faculty & D has no interest in majoring in music, in discussions with the music department they have been extremely encouraging and accommodating. We certainly got the impression that non-music majors would be very welcomed in ensembles, etc.

Of course, a harp is a little more unusual than a violin, so perhaps that is a slightly different situation.

The concert was done by the IW Civic Orchestra. Approximately 45 to 50 string players play in the orchestra.
