I think the ncaa now allows it in some cases, as Eagledad pointed out, and in fact I think it is encouraged for football players. The parents need to be involved in the financial decision, and the weekend might not be treated as a big party by high school kids.

That’s a great rule and a huge improvement on how things were done.

Remember though that just because they can pay for transportation for parents does not mean the recruiting budget for a particular school has the funds to pay for parents. We ran into the situation in D1 woman’s swimming that many schools do not even pay for the recruited athletes flight. So don’t necessary expect parent transportation expenses for all sports, i would expect it is more prevalent in the revenue generating sports like football.
