What is the general schedule for a D1 official visit? We are thinking one parent should go on at least the first one. I have heard fly in on Thursday, get to campus Fri morning, Leave Sunday. But they can only be on campus 48 hours. … When is the “Sunday” meeting with the coach, then? Thanks!
In our case, the sit-down with the coaches took place on Sat afternoon.
Each school will be different. In my experience, most are Thursday-Saturday, some Friday-Sunday. Some can even happen mid week, depending on the sport and the timing of the visit. You should get a schedule of the visit before it happens. My wife went with our son. For us it was worthwhile. Not for any real substantive reasons, but because it gave her a chance to meet the coaches and some of the other parents. I say go if you can swing it financially.
Each school is different. Most schools will send you a schedule or loose outline for the trip and will work with you if you have specific travel needs. It’s best for parents to go, see the facilities and meet everyone. Most of the time a parent will ask the important questions a kid may not ask. So go if you can.
We saw a wide range of “meetings with the coach” including a couple that said “we don’t make offers while you are here, we meet as a staff, and with all your hosts, and make sure you are a good fit for our program, then we will give you a call in a week or less.” Both called and made offers within a few days. So don’t read too much into one school doing something one way, and another doing something different. They probably aren’t sending any signals, its just that each coach may have his or her system they like to use.
